There is this guy at my golf club who is a friend but he is so annoying with no etiquette! He won't repair pitch marks on the green he will just stand on them, he thinks he is so long and waits for ages before hitting "just in case" when he will never reach, he hands out a tip "like practice 1ft putts and them he will go and miss two in a row! I have also caught him cheating a while back! Any advice on how to deal with this? I want to remain friends and not get him into trouble

Jacob,

How old is your friend?  Does he want to be a good golfer or is he just doing it for fun?  If he wants to be good, then let him know in a nice way that to become a good golfer he must learn etiquette and play by the rules of golf.  If he is only doing it for fun, then you may have to laugh it off and shake your head when he does it.

I've become pretty good at just ignoring the bad etiquette I encounter. It's like bad drivers (I mean the idiots, not the people who are just unskilled), not much will change the way they drive and trying to "fix" them just leads to unnecessary self-aggravation. Gotta get 'em while they are young or it's a bit of a lost cause.

If he's a cheater just don't play him for money and if he tries to claim bragging rights after a win remind him that he's a cheater.

Yours in earnest, Jason.
