Pros/Cons of Reverse K Setup?

Hi,

I was wondering what others on the forum think of the reverse K address setup. I've always been taught to setup with a centered setup. I've recently been learning about the reverse K and it seems to have some merit, but as an amateur and relative beginner, it's always hard to know what to think of others' claims. I believe one of the arguments is that a reverse K lends itself to not having to think so much about getting the hips forward at impact and that all you need to concentrate on is the pivot and what the arms are doing. I can see his point and wonder if it would take out the need for as much of a hip slide. But would this take out the momentum of the hip slide?

I'd be very interested in any thoughts on the pros and cons of setting up with a reverse K.

Thanks!

I have not heard of this before. Do you have any photos you could share?

The reverse K setup is great and really helps to keep from sliding too far in your swing.  I have a tendency to sway and the pro advised me to utilize the reverse K and after much practice it really helps.  The only problem I've found is that sometimes by kicking in your right knee (for the K) you put too much weight onto your right side and you end up defeating the whole concept.  But if you keep your weight centered it works pretty well.

You can still have a "centered" setup, but push your hips forward enough and have a "Reverse K" as well. Your head is centered.

I have a mini-reverse K for every shot I hit, and a more pronounced one with the driver.

Yeah, it is almost like doing a full swing with the weight forward drills I've learned through you guys and S&T; where you basically just practice setting up with a pre-set him hip slide. I've have already started doing this a few months ago with my driver and it's really helped. I just haven't tried it much with the irons. Glad to get some conformation that it's worth trying.

By understanding is that it's more about bumping your left hip toward the target slightly, which naturally drops your right shoulder down a bit rather then kicking in your right knee.

OK.  Thanks for showing that @scopek .  I do this more when I set up for my driver.

Same here, have found that this set up helps me get much better contact.

Me, too. It's worked wonders from my driver and woods. All I do with my driver swing is keep in that position with a steady head, rotate, and then just swing away. For some reason, I've just never tried it with my irons. I'll try doing a mini one like Erik said.

Hi,

Why do you have a more pronounced reversed K with the driver? I understand why you do it when you want to hit down on the ball, but is it really good when trying to hit up on it?

Because the lower right shoulder with the head slightly back (and thus the left shoulder slightly back) helps you to hit up on the ball. Please keep your discussion to your existing thread. I second the opinion that what you said there makes no sense.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
