So, after all this, now I'm wondering what is "release"?

I am starting to get a tiny bit of feel for a "double pendulum effect". Is the place where it seems to move the fastest the "release"?

Is the double pendulum the correct way of thinking about a swing?

What is it? And what do you feel when you are "releasing"?

Does it even make any sense to think of it this way?

well, they say that the golf swing is somewhat similar except it's completely upsidedown, to a medieval siege engine called trebuchet.

Trebuchet was the terror of medieval times in warfare, used rather successfully even by the Spanish conquistadors against the aztecs in siege of Tenochtitlan.

Trebuchet wooden arm would equate to golfer's arms

trebuchet sling rope which attaches the ammunition into the wooden arm equates to golf club.

here's  a picture analysis of bobby jones's swing, I don't know if it's accurate though, with the old technology of the 1940s used for motion-imaging.

Thanks, at least the double pendulum part is somewhat answered. My main question is really what is everybody's feel at release. What does it feel like to them with they get that whipping motion? For me it's when I turn my body and the club kind of does its own thing at release. How fast I turn my body determines when the whipping motion occurs. Just wondering what everyone else "feels"?

The only time I really feel a release is in the short game when I am trying to engage more bounce. Otherwise I get very rigid feel through impact. Really I don't fee much in the hands at all. I feel more my hands at the top of the backswing and that top of the finish. In between the club just does its thing.

Yeah I typically don't think "release" is something golfers should think about. Lag happens and so does release. Release is basically just the wrists unhinging, the sequence that they do is more determined by the pivot than thinking or feeling something. Things are happening so fast anyway, the last point in the swing where we could actively change something is about A5.
