What would you shoot at Augusta on Sunday?

Just Sunday course conditions, not pressure, tournament etc....   I'm interested in looking at people's handicaps and then what they think they would actually shoot at Augusta with a tournament setup.

I guess I have to start.  I'm about a 15 or 16 right now.  I honestly think I would have trouble breaking 130.  I'm thinking just of all the 4 or 5 putts I would probably hit. :-)

What would you guess you could shoot?

I'd like to think that I wouldn't have too much trouble with the putting, but I'm sure that I'm clueless there.  (I'm used to playing on greens that are 9's and 10's, not 14's or whatever Augusta is)

I would have trouble getting out of the forests between a lot of the holes after I spray my tee shots though.  And it's highly unlikely that I'd be able to avoid keeping my ball dry on the stretch from 12 through 16.  I would, however, play super conservative on 13 and 15 with 3 woods off the tee and playing them as three shot holes.

Maybe I'm being way too optomistic here, but I'm going to say ... 94.

I will bitesince this is just for kicks. Probably in the mid 60s if I quit counting after the 7th hole. :~(. On a very slightly serious note: Assuming pro tees (you mentioned Sunday) Max - 144. Average 4 shots to get on the green and average 4 putts. I won't hit my usual 3-4 OBs which I do on tighter courses. Min - 126. Avg. 3.5 to get on greens, avg. 3.5 putts. I don't have any profound insights to back up the numbers.

I would be surprised if I couldn't break 90 so I'll take the wild guess of 88.

I'm probably completely out to lunch but I'm thinking it can't be more than 12 strokes harder than the tips at Capstone where I shot a 76 last year.

One thing is for sure. I would like to find out.

I shot 77 at TPC Sawgrass, but I think Augusta, as set up for Sunday Masters has GOT to be a lot higher than how even tough courses are set up for normal, daily play.......

.....maybe I'm wrong though.

I think the distance would kill me. I would be hitting long irons into every green, and with greens that firm and fast I would have to land a lot of approach shots short. I don't think I've ever had to play that way. I honestly have no idea what I'd shoot.

Are we playing from the pros tees as well? If so, I'm a 15 handicap and I would have to play well to be in the 120s.

The short game is very important there, the chips and putting is where Augusta is at. And thats where I would sturuggle.

Cool thread btw....

I think people are under estimating the difficulty

I think I would shoot around 110, or around 25-30 strokes higher than normal.

I played one of Alberta's toughest courses ( 142 slope, 75 rating and 7500 yards ) and shot 98

Augusta would make that look like a picnic

Hmmm, my HC is just a guess @ 17, being that I have only played 1 round since I stopped playing years ago. Back then it was much lower, but as of today, and the fact that I can't seem to hit my driver, or 3 wood worth a darn, I'd have to say about 120..lol

Can only dream about playing there..oh well..lol

82, mostly because of the length.

I could probably break 90, probably something like 88. The length wouldn't bother me that much. It would probably be short game shots from stupid locations like above the hole, or short sided.

I suppose I'd have to see it. I don't think it's unreasonable to think playing very conservatively would help to overcome the length and trouble. Play for bogey on every hole and hit a lot of irons. I would think most people playing better than bogey golf here could hit 2 7 irons and an 8i and cover in the 450-500 yards range without too many terrible misses.

I would follow the USGA guidelines and "play forward" to my appropriate tees.  I still think I would be in the high 90s with the rest of the set up and the fact I would be playing it for the first time.  Now give my a few weeks and I could get into the 80s.

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
