I need some help..

I'm a beginner. Started playing with some hand me downs. Thing is with hand me downs, they club face is worked out. I'm looking for a set of irons to learn with n use for the next few years however, price is also a factor. Wouldn't want to buy a good brand clubs n decide not to play a year later. Saw some cleveland hibore xli iron set selling cheap here. Brand new however, after researching, it's like a 5-6 years old model. Chances are old stocks or overstock or whatever. Would they still be good? Good enough clubs for me or should I pay extra and get better clubs? Thanks

As a beginner all you require is set of game improvement clubs, second hand is perfectly fine, some players never buy new clubs as you pay a premium for the privilege, clubs, in general, are built to last, so a 2nd hand set of gi irons will be perfect for you, and if you don't like the game you'll probably get your money back! Maybe look for a set calloways, or pings a few seasons old, they've always made good gi irons and the calloways in particular can be bought second hand rather cheaply!

If you have an athletic swing and are looking to but in work in to the game, you do not want a GI iron. You should stay with the irons you have and take lessons or buy a "blade" like iron set. 20 years ago I was in high school and took lessons. I had a decent swing. The pro suggested that I buy a set of mizuno forged blades. My father played and told me not to get them. I was a big mistake. If you have the itch to buy something and have basics of a goods wing buy a more demanding club so you will feel the ball and be able to learn howto control the ball flight. There are plenty of good options available, you should look for minimal or no offset, thin top line, and steel Shafts. If looking for used clubs, you can't go wrong with dynamic gold s300 shafts. Very solid and very popular so they should be easy to find

Don't get distracted by blades. They will be around when you get better, for now get something you can hit high and far until you get down to about single digits. Blades don't offer any real advantages except look and feel, neither of which make a difference to the ball. You don't need them to get better. They are even getting replaced with more forgiving clubs among tour players, those for whom their design flaws cause the least harm.

Try and ignore the year they came out and focus on condition and price, though clubs last nearly forever under careful use. Just about all the game improvement irons from different brands will essentially boil down to similar performance. Something basic will do, even if it's only a 5-PW set or something.

Agree. If you get blades they will piss you off when learning because you won't obviously be the best ball striker and make you want to quit. That's what happened to one of my buddies
