Am thinking of getting another putter. Maybe the Scotty Circa 62 from Ebay. Yet also might want one of the black Pings. I currently have the Scotty Newport Select blade. I see all sorts of putters with inserts, whether it be the solid plastic/rubber or now "Groove Inserts" slotted inserts? Do these actually serve a purpose? Are these just for personal feel? And if I go the Ebay way, I would want the same length as my current. When measuring the length, is it from the top of the shaft(grip) to the top of the putter head, or including the entire putter head?

The inserts are, in general, to soften the feel of impact with the ball.  Some claim to promote a quicker transition to forward roll.

To measure length, start from the top of the grip and measure down the shaft to the base (sole) of the putter.  It should be measured where the shaft would intersect the base if the shaft extended to the ground.

I just got a new putter for the first time in forever, and it has an insert, whereas my old one did not.  My understanding is that, in addition to the feel, it also helps distance control on off center hits.

I used it for the first time this morning and it certainly felt different.  A lot softer than my old steel putter.

Different inserts do different things.

Some are softer. Some  promote more consistent energy transfers on off-center hits (the Pixl).

Well, whatever it is, I like it.

Speaking of, I had the first (9 hole) round with mine this morning.  I was very pleased with it on the long putts.  I didn't make any of them, but my distance control was such that I had easy tap-ins after all of them.  On my shorter putts (5-6 footers), of which I had 3, I pulled two of them, and slammed the other one through the break.

Pretty much exactly what I hoped for on longer putts, and exactly what I expected on the shorter ones ... since I came from a putter that I was aiming 6 inches to the right of the hole and still holing putts.

    • PGAT is all about Scottie right now and rightfully so. The PGAT has it's star right now and some potential good guys hoping Scottie takes some time off.  The LIV guys are of the radar until the PGA. There will be the Rory/ Hovland rumors to keep the fire smoldering until then.  You will probably get your wish as time moves on. What I like most about LIV is they are funded by a regime that has numerous human rights violations and the players don't seem to care. The fans certainly don't seem to mind. I admit, I went to LIV Miami to check it out, it wasn't empty.  I didn't see anyone protesting.

    • Hmmm, seems odd. I have ordered several things from them and have never had an issue, so I'm confident it will be resolved. I'm sending the watch back, I don't care for it, Ill just use the H4. There's nothing technically wrong with it, I just don't like it.
    • Actually, I'm in a different league this year. That was at New Albany Golf Links.
    • I'm tossing around the idea of a trip to the Pinehurst area in mid November. Veteran's Day is on a Monday, and I can probably stack some days so I only take 1 day off work. Only thing I'm a little worried about is potential course conditions. Wondering if that's a transition season where grass is starting to go dormant. Well, beyond that, I'm worried about broaching this plan to my wife, but one problem at time 😆
