Greetings one and all,

I went through the fitting process at a local golf shop.  After trying many different irons I settled on the Mizuno JPX-EZ.

I was hitting a reg flex graphite shaft.  I did not buy the clubs until I got home and ordered on the phone from that store.  When I ordered the fitter asked me if I would be buying clubs down the road and I said I don' thinks so ( I am 67 ) they said I should order a Senior flex and so I did.  I have only hit the clubs at a driving range and they fell like they are club head heavy not as well balanced in my hands, going out this AM to play 9 with them and see how they feel on course.  If I don't like the feel will most shops put on new shafts for me and not charge me?  What are my options?

Thanks in advance

At what point did you think to yourself "maybe getting fitted to a club I haven't hit yet over the phone isn't such a great idea"?

And at what point do you think the shop is going to say "hey, you ordered the wrong shafts and we'll replace them with different ones free of charge, no problem"?

If you can't see the obvious, then maybe you deserve what you get.

Would you like to swap them for some magic beans?

If you don't like them, go in tell them you were fitted for regular but the shop person recommended the Senior flex, you followed his recommendation and it did not work.  They may replace them for you.  I think the local shop I use would do so.  It never hurts to try.

Old Dog 66,

That is what I did, They have sent me a FED-EX prepaid label and the clubs go back to Mizuno tomorrow.  They are going to replace the shafts for me as per the original fitting.  One could not ask for anything more great customer service and a customer for life.

Nemicu,  Not everyone is selling magic beans.....The shop I bought from is top notch and has been in business  a long time.  Sorry you have to deal with shops only selling magic beans.

Forget the magic beans, it looks like Tinkerbell has waved her magic wand and given you a fairytale ending. What can I say? I'm happy for you. But if you're asking me to endorse your selection process or your startlingly naive customer logic, then that really would be fictional story.

Relax, man. The guy had a lapse in judgment, but you didn't have to go beat him up about it. Perhaps it would have been more helpful to have suggested options he could have pursued to correct his mistake and how to avoid them in the future.

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
