I got really POed at a golfer the green behind me.

Today is the first day I have gotten really mad at a golfer other than myself. I am playing with my two grandsons, 14 and 12. They are newbies and so they are hacking the ball a bit down the fairway doing their two month best.  We are on a par three over the water hole, about 135 yards from the whites, 85 yards from the women's junior tees. I hit my seven over the water at the pin about 145 yards and land just on the back edge of the green, pin high. The boys are trying to get over from the red tees, Austen, the oldest,  made it with two shots.. Carson, the youngest used his kids driver, which turned out to be too much club and he flew the green to the top of a small hill just to the back right of the green.  He and I head around the green to find his ball while Austen decides to retrieve his first shot, which he skulled, from the water. He gets it and as he is walking around the lake, the guy behind us decides to tee off. His ball  hits Carson's upper leg,  on the fly  while he is up on the hill still looking for his ball

No warning, no fore, no nothing. I start yelling at the guy that we are on the green you jerk and we have people in front of us as well on the next tee so chill out!  He just stands there with his arms crossed, and his daughter next to him, with this screw you expression on his face.  I told the boys to pick up their balls and lets move on. However, if the guy does the same thing at the next hole, he may find his club flying into the lake.

I admit I let it get to me. We were not holding them up because of a foursome in front of us, and I don't see how teeing off on a par three can be accidental.  I understand not waiting for the green to clear on par 5 or a long 4 but 135 yards? Give me a break.

I was not sure if there is any kind of proper reaction to this kind of lack of good golf manners.

If he missed everybody let it go with a little yelling, but he jeopardized the safety of your family, so if I'm on the jury I'd excuse you for anything you did to him. The fact that his daughter was there may change things somewhat ...

Yep, there's a "proper" reaction, but it would have been inappropriate with your grand kids there..... :pound: Teachable moment for the kids. Life is full of *******s and golf can bring out both the best, and the worst in people.

That is why I am favor of conceal and carry. The guy just assaulted your grandkid, time to bury a body.

Yea the guy was a total douche. Nothing you can do about douches like him. I would have called the pro shop and got the ranger out there. Get a figure of authority on the course in play, he'll crumble like a deck of cards.

My wife said the same thing, about getting a person from the pro shop to handle his butt off the course. She was not happy hearing her grandson was bombed by a fool's golf ball.

I would have immediately notified the starter and demanded they remove the guy from the course for unsafe behavior, no way in hell did he not see all of you down there and if he didn't know better then he needed to be off the course so someone can explain why you don't hit into a par 3 with people around the green. If that was my daughter he hit god help him if he isn't apologizing like mad on my way to him, I know what should be done but I probably would do what feels better.

I'm not sure how I'd react....I ride, and I'm fairly certain I'd hop in my cart and approach the guy on the tee to have a little talk.  I'd be a civil as possible with kids around, but I would make it clear this had better not happen again for the safety and common sense reasons.   What happened is insane...I'd probably pick up his ball and drop it in the lake while I was on my way to the tee to have my "little talk" with him.

You handled it pretty well, honestly. Unless you want to beat the crap out of the guy, then there's not much you can do by yourself on that one.

I think the only other thing is to call the pro shop. It's inexcusable on a par 3 to do what he did. I mean, a couple of feet difference, and you're taking about a serious injury. I'd call the pro shop, let them know, and then they should be out there immediately to kick the idiot off the course. You could also think about calling the cops in that situation. Probably not more than think about it, because I doubt they'd be interested. But really, the pro shop should handle it.

Best response would be to call the pro shop and have him removed. I'm not sure I could've kept my temper enough to do that, though...

There's certainly a range. I'm a big believer in learning how to hit the ball on a range before going to a "real" course. And even then, start off on par 3 courses. But that is off topic. Your grandson was lucky. I got hit once with a shanked pitch that left a yellowish purple bruise for 2 weeks... Edit - to clarify, the other guy was 100% in the wrong and no fault is attributable to the kid.

      I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

      Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
