Swing's looking good!

Well thanks, but not much has changed from last year. My head is not moving forward as much I think but still falling back before impact. My hips are more open at impact than before which is good. I've been working on that. I want keep my left arm straighter and get more extension through impact.

Once I get back into the "swing" of things I may need to start working on my swing again or you'll be hitting it passed me with the driver. You've definitely gained some extra pop there.

It's nice for sure. The drive on #6 measured out at 282. I had another in the 270s. Last year, 250 was a great drive for me and now seems to be the average unless I miss hit it.

Shot 45 last night. I started of with 2 scrambling pars and then a bogey compliments of a bladed chip from just off the green. I followed this with 3 doubles as I was rushing after slower players let me though. Realizing this and gaining my composure with breathing exercises, I refocused and par'd the next hole. I actually lipped an 8' birdie putt. Finished with a 3 putt bogey (I didn't trust what my feet were telling me on the break) and a bogey caused by trying to mash a 4i out of a nasty birds nest lie. I drove by the ball 4 times before I saw it.

Cause of doubles:

  • Thinned hybrid on a par 3 that killed some worms and only went 75 yards. Next shot flew the green leaving a short sided pitch downhill.
  • Fat shot out of fairway bunker leaving with a pitch that I had to keep under tree limbs with a forced carry over a bunker. Flew the green and left another short sided pitch from thick rough.
  • Second shot on par 5 was fat push into lake. Next shot after penalty went into greenside bunker.

FW Hit - 0 (quite a few just off in the rough)

GIR - 2 (only 1 par as a result)

Scrambling - 2/3

Sand Saves - 0/0

It seems like my game is coming back if I can keep my focus. My game golf was in my backpack in the car, so it didn't get recorded.

I haven't posted an update for a while. After trending up to almost 16, my handicap is finally trending back down. Latest trend has me down to 15.4. My primary woes are in the short game. Last night was just ridiculous. I had several near GIRs that I bogeyed or worse and even a few GIRs that I bogeyed with 2 putts. The greens were excruciatingly slow and spongy from the rain, but still.

The good news, I am hitting my driver really well I have an occasional block or snap hook, but most are going down the middle and much longer than last year. 3 wood is improving, but still needs some improvement. My miss with irons is a big block to the right, but contact is much cleaner these days.

Putting is pretty solid except for last night with the conditions.

I still need to get some updated video taken. The few times I've recorded, there isn't anything significantly different.

Haven't posted an update in a while. I haven't been recording my swing. I have been playing some good golf lately though. Not at Kittyhawk, but when I get on some good greens...

Last Sunday, I shot 39 - 41 at Homestead and this afternoon, 38 - 42 at Community (Dales - easy). Almost ready to break 80 even though both courses were par 71s. It would just be nice to see a round in the 70s. I'm not sure if there is something in my head now about Kittyhawk, but I shot 45 in league the other night, granted the wind was really howling, but that's no excuse. I just can't seem to get it done there. The greens SOOOO SLOOOOOWWW.

Wow. Over a year since I posted. I don't anticipate there is much difference in my swing except that I live in Orlando now.

Most people think that I moved down here for golf, but it was actually a plentiful job market that brought me here. Living in a golf mecca is icing on the cake.

Went to the range tonight and dusted off the old camera and tripod. Although I've been hitting the ball good (mostly) the last few times I've been out, the shots I hit while the camera was recording were awful. Once I packed the camera up, I was back to hitting pretty good. Perhaps my swing is camera shy, or maybe I just tense up thinking I need to make a perfect swing. Regardless, hopefully I will have some new videos to post soon.

Looking at Game Golf, it is suggesting that I work on longer putts to lower my handicap.

This seems counter intuitive to me when my strokes gained seems to show the greatest issue is approach shots, but it puts it listed lower in priority. ???

That's just because of the buckets they've chosen. Likely no other range of approach shots are going to reach a high strokes saved number.

I am going to attempt the 5 minute a day challenge in September. The next few days could be interesting with a tropical system moving in, but I'm going to give it a go.

I'm going to go back through the things that people have given me here to work on to see if I was ever able to incorporate them or if I reverted.

I think the practice is paying off. I am driving the ball pretty well. Other than a few holes per round, it is going straight with a higher trajectory. I would love to check out some launch monitor numbers, but it almost seems like I need to dial back the loft from it's current setting of 10.5*. Last few recordings show that my head is much more steady, but my hips still seem to slide quite a bit forward. Hope to get video up soon, but thank you 5 minutes a day practice.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
