Playing the right tees

I played golf in Colorado for 40 years and never in my life did I hit a 7 iron anywhere near 170 yards.  170 would usually be a hard 6I or a weak 5I... now it's about a standard 5I.  I play Pole Creek, Grand Elk, and I don't really change my distances much at all from what I play in Denver.  However, the few times I played in Florida, I felt like I was playing with a whiffle ball.

7-iron 170 yards is just crazy... Especially with assuming a flush hit with the blade of the iron.

I'm hitting 7-iron 150 yards carry when crushing it at max power...

Another good rule of thumb is multiply your average 5i distance by 36 and play the tees closest to that number.  For me that's 190 * 36 = 6840.  Similar answer to the play it forward driver based guidelines for me.  And that's right about the distance where I'm challenged by the length but not hitting long irons into half the par 4s or anything.

Island living gets repetitive after a couple of years.  One highway 80 miles long, a few side roads... that's it.  We have lots of friends here and pretty much know the ropes now, but it's expensive to live here, entertainment is very limited.  It's hot and humid in the summer, even when there aren't any tropical storms brewing.  That is particularly difficult for me, born and raised in Minnesota and Montana.

I love the mountains, I love just getting in the car and taking a road trip.  We both want to see more of the US.  We've traveled much of the world (parts of Europe, Asia, Australia, Central America... and off to Africa this October) but haven't done nearly enough exploring in our own backyard.

Besides, I want to get back to playing golf and figuring out which tees are the right ones for me. (How's that for getting it back on topic?)

unfortunately in flighted tournaments your tees are based on your handicap,not your driver distance.our tournaments  in my flight our yardage has to be atleast 6400-6500 yards minimum.i only hit my driver on average 215 maybe 225.so under 6000 yard tees,thats not happening.played a course yesterday that was 6000 yards from white tees and it was driver wedge most the round and not exactly my best club to leaved for approach.its golf not drive,pitch and putt.even with my short drive distance I find that even on courses up to 6800 yards theres only 1 or 2 holes that are really long for approach shots.i hit 3wd and 5 wd pretty well so aslong as par 4s are no longer than 430 im within range.there should be a few tough holes on a course.
