turning off brain

Anyone been able to do this? Haha. Sounds funny to type, but that's my goal in morning. Just play with confidence and try not to think of any swing specifics.

I think my problem on some holes is I forget to turn my brain back on.

I don't want to turn off my brain. I just want to remove negative thoughts and fill it with positive thoughts. I want to focus on my target and picture my ball going to it.

Biggest help to me for this is that I, before addressing the ball in my pre-shot routine, stand behind the ball one last time and picture again what kind of shot I want to hit while taking a couple deep breaths. The deep breaths and visualization really help me clear my mind of everything but the shot I want to hit at the moment.

The problem is more that the swing thought or brain isn't focused on something that is related to the priority piece, "thinking" isn't the problem, the problem is what you're thinking about.

And you can't just "wish" yourself to be confident, a lot of that is earned through practicing correctly.

I dont get confidence from practice. :-(

But, good shots on the course are excellent for boosting golf-idence (golf-confidence!)

I played this one par 4 like a boss today. Hit hybrid into the hill in front of me. Second shot, mid iron to the right of green. Third shot, wedge56 to the pin. Fourth shot tap in par.

Our group took a hotdog and coffee break after the front nine and man, that hotdog tasted good after that hole. :-P

I actually bombed my driver today! Only problem was disturbingly high number of topped shots with irons and hybrids.

Stableford rules were used. I got 0 stableford points from 8 holes,  which is simply too much to lower your handicap, really...

I got 34 stableford points from 12 holes, which is quite good effort, to scramble for those needed stableford points!!!

37 stableford points would have been enough to lower hcp again... but it's still at the same number as of now.

Funny this topic is coming up here. My son was just saying that I think too much when I am swinging. IDK, how he can tell. In any case, he hits pretty well. He gets a lot of GIR for his relative handicap (about 10-12). I asked him what he thinks about? And he said, nothing. We got into a long discussion during our drive to the course yesterday, and he said nothing. He empties his mind completely. I know this is hard to comprehend, but somehow he does it and he hits the ball pretty well for a double digit player. On the flip side, I wonder if putting require you to turn on your mind again?

I've noticed that when I go to tee off if I address the ball and then look down the fairway, and then look at the ball, and then down the fairway it sometimes causes problems and makes me hit a crappy shot.  Like I'm creating a ton of confusion and worry over aiming.  If I just walk up, stick the tee in the ground and hit without even looking at the fairway I seem to have much better hits.  It's a little bit annoying. :-P

Whenever I try to think about much while I'm swinging my shots are all off. I can only handle maybe thinking about one or two golf related things a round. I do all the thinking on the driving range. ;-)
