Is there a hole out there that completely owns you?

Any long par 3 owns me.

Most par 3s over 180 yrd really give me by big numbers on the card. For me anything over 180 means hitting a 3h or longer and for me that just means me GIR% is way down, maybe 10%. That means my scoring average for those holes is in the +1 to +2 range.

This is No. 16 at Stonewolf GC, my home course. From the Whites it plays 325 yards. It comes off a hillside with steep hillside hazard on left, and fairway bordered by creek on right. The creek is actually tighter in real life than the diagram shows. The hole plays into a quartering headwind, and I often get a 6 or 7 on this. Your're driving into a bottleneck, the fairway gets choked by overhanging trees about 100 yards out from the green. The GUR indicates perpetual ground under repair. the area used to be to fairway bunkers, but water flowing downhill from homes on the cliff kept them perpetually flooded. So, the bunkers got covered over. Smooth grass won't grow, so it's GUR. You lose your ball in the damp fluff, but it's no penalty. Hit it OB right, or fly it into the hillside: lost ball.

I finally conquered it, but at a price. I hit a 4H about 190 yards into the left fairway, and had

an uphill 7 iron into back cup location. Ball flew in, and bit 8 feet left of pin, but the head on my

7 iron flew off!!! (Just got my X20 Tours reshafted). This hole extracts a price even when

you have a birdie putt... which I missed...

At least I was able to find my 7i head!

There is a course I play that has a par 4 that completely plays to a weakness of mine.  The hole is built around an old quarry which is now filled with water.  The tee box faces a quarry wall across the water which is significantly higher than the tee box.  Off the whites, you end up with maybe a 150-yard carry to clear the water.  Problem is, I am both a short hitter and the launch angle of my driver is low (the two are somewhat related, I know).  If the landing area was about the same height as the tee box, no problem.  But since it's higher, my drives have a tendency to just slam into the wall.  And there's no drop area.  Awfully bad feeling to be laying 13 on a hole.

Yes, there is a par 5 at the one course I play regularly. It's not particularly long. I can usually hit my drive to inside of 200 yards which leaves an uphill shot that's fairly open to the green. There's a tiny creek that cuts through the fairway that is usually less than 20 yards in front of me for my 2nd shot. For some reason I always hit one errant shot from there. It's never the same, a top, a shank, a duck hook, a high slice. I can drop another ball right there and hit a perfect shot on my next swing, but by then it's already too late. It should be an easy par/birdie but that 2nd shot always gets me.

At my home course, the 15th hole is probably the worst Granted, it's pretty straight, but the fact that it's 600 yards makes it tough enough, especially for a relatively short hitter like me. The fairway is lined with trees on both sides (as most are), but the sheer length of it gives you the mentality that you need to kill it off the tee, which usually never ends well for most people. Not only is it long, but the green is a nightmare. Talk about slope. If you miss long, forget it. Your ball will go off the front without a doubt. This is the only hole that I will "let" myself get a double bogey on hahah

There is at least one hole on every regular course I play ... Have you ever noticed that you miss in the same place every time, even though you swear you are not going over "there."

Ah, thought you were talking about someone saying that about the specific hole I was having trouble with.

Right now, #9 on Terra Lago South owns my ass. I can't seem to make better than a double right now. It's rated the toughest on the course, and from the tees I play, it measures 425 yards with a canal running the entire left side and a large fairway bunker on the right side of the landing area. The hole also doglegs a bit to the left and the green is well protected by the canal on the left and bunkers short and long and a collection area to the right.
