Bazinga!

Is that the sound your drive makes too?  Mine goes "clink".

No, at that clubhead speed it starts to sound more like someone yelling "IN THE HOLE!" off the tee of every par 5. Many people think that sound is just some dummy in the crowd, but it's actually a clever trick engineers design into modern drivers.

Have the turbulotors increased your swing speed? If so, how much? Also, how much distance do you gain for each mph you increase?

For me it has, about 1mph which comes out to about 2.5-3 yards longer, on a relatively center hit. The faster you swing the more you'll benefit from the turbulators, Bubba gained almost 3mph I think.

I tried the G30 driver at a local range/pro shop. I did not get to try it on a launch monitor. I hit the regular and then the stiff stock shafts. Then I hit my 4 year old Cleveland DST. There was no noticeable gain in distance. The G30 did have a little tighter shot dispersion. Honestly,  it looked like my Cleveland had a little more roll out. I had gone with intention of purchasing but  I couldn't tell enough difference to spend that kind of money. I think it's a good club but it didn't convince me that it was worth the money you have to pay for it.

PING G30 driver #1 two months in a row,

top-selling model in 2015

PHOENIX: (April 28, 2015) Widening its lead as the top-selling driver model (units) from the previous month, the PING G30 driver achieved the #1 sales position in March for units and dollars in the on- and off-course retail channels, according to Golf Datatech LLC, which tracks golf equipment sell-thru data for the United States.

In March, the G30 driver earned a 13.2% share in units (up 23% from February) and 17.46% share in dollars (up 20% from February). For the months of January through March combined, the G30 driver ranks first in units (11.38%) and dollars (15.29%).

“The success of the G30 driver continues as golfers are seeing the performance benefits of its overall design,” said John Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “The combination of the Turbulator Technology and T9S face are leading to faster clubhead and ball speeds for longer drives. In addition, the G30 driver also features the highest MOI of any PING driver ever designed to ensure golfers the accuracy and consistency to hit more fairways.”

Added Solheim, “It’s especially rewarding to see the G30 driver gaining even more momentum as we enter the peak season for golf equipment sales. As golfers get out on the course and have the chance to attend fitting and demo days, we’re confident players of all skill levels will experience the benefits of the G30 driver.”

The PING G30 driver was an instant success when introduced last summer, winning its first week on the PGA Tour in the hands of PING professional Angel Cabrera at the Greenbrier Classic. Bubba Watson switched the same week and went on to lead the PGA Tour in driving distance, averaging 314 yards per drive. Billy Horschel gained 12 yards in distance after putting the G30 driver in his bag before going on to win twice en route to capturing the FedExCup.

Since the G30 driver arrived in golf shops in late July, it’s been the top-selling driver model combined for the months of August through March, first earning #1-selling status in September. In eight months on the market, the G30 driver holds a 13.9% dollar share and 9.63% unit share – both #1 in that timeframe.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
