I am in need of good but cheap golf irons. I have heard about the Taylormade Burner 2.0's but there are some cons that made me nervous. My budget is $300 but I have $50 dollars off at Golf Galaxy. I am ok with new or used clubs. My clubs right now are about 15 year old Wilson K28 hand me downs. So any suggestions would help. :-D Thank You.

Ii have the burner 2.0s. I like them. Not sure about what cons could be with irons though so I am probably not much help. Just wanted to throw out there that I bought them about 2 or 3 years ago with an open budget after trying them, the rocketballz and another TM iron, I forget what they were, and I have not regret my purchase.

1.  It might be a good idea to get fit for a set of irons.  This might be more important for somebody with a good and repeatable swing.

2.  Find an iron head that looks good at setup but that also has the forgiveness you need depending on your skill level.  But more important than the iron head is the shaft....it is the engine of the club.  Depending on your swing and swing speed some shafts will fit you better than other shafts.

3.  You can get some great deals on used and even new clubs online.  globalgolf, rockbottomgolf, golfio, 3balls, and callawaypreowned are all great sites to find a good deal on.  And as far as new vs. used, on those sites, a very good to like new condition club is pretty darn close to a brand new club.  Then there is also ebay.  You can find some very good deals on ebay, but you need to know who you are buying from....look at the details, pictures, and seller rating and don't be afraid to email them questions before you buy.

Oh and they have some used golf clubs or just good deals at some golf stores and you can verify the condition of the clubs and pick the brains of the employees...also a good option.

4.  Most of all, know what you want to buy and do your homework before you pull the trigger.  It can be a process, but it is worth it to get the right clubs.

Hopefully i didn't make this too difficult or overwhelming, good luck on your purchase!

I agree with the importance of getting fitted. When I first started to golf a few years back I bought a cheap set off the internet from rockbottom. They served me well but it wasn't until i got fitted last year that I saw improvements and consistency in my game. It is an added cost but where I got fitted, they took the price of the fitting off of the total price of the irons as long as I bought from them. If you don't get fitted the sites listed above are great. I would also throw in tgw and carlsgolfland as good places to buy offline. As for iron sets...I would second the burner 2.0 and have also heard good things about cobra amp cells. Best of luck in your search!

"Good but cheap" irons = Tour Edge. The Exotics range is great. Any of the Exotics XCG series of irons would be terrific value, as they can generally picked up new on ebay or through the big online dealers for not a lot of money. I have the XCG-3s and think they are wonderful, but I think the company is up to XCG-5 or  XCG-6, now.

They sell for very low sums compared to their quality - and all because, it seems, Tour Edge has no interest in paying tour pros stupid money for advertising their product, and because Tour Edge seems to have become labeled as a manufacturer of woods rather than irons...

I think my next set will be 1 Irons. www.1irongolf.com They've got some good deals on used / demo sets. I would imagine these would be like new. It takes a little time to "unlearn" your current swing, but it's worth it. Plus, the website has a ton of very well written articles on the golf swing and how to improve your game.

Driver.......Ping K15 9.5* stiff 3 wood.....Ping K15 16* stiff 5 wood.....Ping K15 19* stiff 4 Hybrid...Cleveland Gliderail 23* stiff 5 - PW......Pinhawk SL GW...........Tommy Armour 52* SW...........Tommy Armour 56* LW...........Tommy Armour 60* FW...........Diamond Tour 68* Putter.......Golfsmith Dyna Mite Ball..........Volvik Vista iV Green Bag..........Bennington Quiet Organizer Shoes.... ..Crocs

I live in Central PA so I got them fitted at a local place. I don't know where you live, but maybe call around to some local courses/golf shops or try to find some reviews on places near you.

Get fit somewhere with irons that you feel fits your abilities, then find a pro you like at a golf course and get him to buy it for you.  They'll get you better deals than you'll find at any golf store.  Also gets you to know your local pro and get other good deals for lessons or golf deals.

Just a couple of things to double check...

Global Golf, the seller, has almost 400,000 sales with 99.6% positive feedback. I've used this company. They are a winner.

RETURN POLICY - Your satisfaction is important to Global Golf. If for any reason, you are not happy with your item, it may be returned within 14 days.

The condition is very good, meaning that normal ball marks on the faces; minor scratching on the soles; no significant dings on the heads; no significant wear on the shafts.

The clubs you are buying are 3 and 4 hybrids and 5-pw irons.  All clubs are right-handed.

All shafts are senior graphite. The hybrid shafts are TaylorMade Burner RE*AX 60. The irons shafts are TaylorMade Burner 2.0 SuperFast 65. All clubs have standard lie.

There is no headcover on the hybrids.

If all of these meet your needs, go for it.

Do you know what your swing speed with a driver is? I would guess it would need to be pretty slow for that shaft so be careful.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
