I had not seen the video yet. Is this the whole thing? I really cannot tell what he is doing. Could be a drunk woman he is trying to get back to his hotel. I have heard on the radio that he beat her, but not followed the story much.

If the allegations are true regarding domestic violence then he should be suspended longer. If this is the only evidence then it is hard to say that it should be for more.

Agree that men should not be roughing up women for any reason. Then again this lady married Rice after he slapped her unconscious. Perhaps the NFL took the "after the fact" marriage into consideration for it's punishment.

The bigger problem I see with this is that Rice will not be facing any jail time. IMO the guy should have been locked up for a month or more. Again, maybe the NFL had considered that Rice will not serve any jail time in their punishment. The lack of jail time also says that the Atlantic City 's legal system has some twisted views about domestic violence.

How about nobody hit anybody? Im in NO way excusing what Ray Rice did but there are women out there that think it's ok to hit their men then cry "Im a female" when the man hits back. I could post another infamous elevator incident of Beyone's sister trying to beat and kick the crap out of Jay-Z. (Who did nothing in retaliation) But with that said he should've gotten way more than two games........way more.

It's just weird considering Goodell's history of imposing punishment and his public stance around cleaning up the game. Something very odd about it.

I don't have a very strong opinion on this because I don't know much about it.  I don't know the circumstances of the situation (and that video shows nothing) and I also don't know the results of the meeting with Goodell.

He punched his wife unconscious in an Atlantic City casino. That video you see in the OP was what was released to the public. The video of him actually punching his wife is in police custody and has not been made public (allegedly).

That video is of him dragging her around after the fact.

Hmmmm, Josh Gordon gets 16 games for smoking weed twice and Rice got two games. Guess that means smoking weed is eight times worse than beating your wife. Interesting moral compass, NFL.

The video proves nothing, it shows him carrying her out of an elevator.  Basically it was his word against hers, and in this day and age, the courts always side with the woman.

The fact she married the guy tells me she either provoked him or what he did wasn't as bad as she originally claimed.  I'm completely against domestic violence but I'm also against people being falsely accused of things by vengeful spouses or partners.   If there was video of him punching her in the face, then he should be sitting in jail and we wouldn't be debating the suspension.

I don't either, but if she passed out he'd have dragged her to.  What would you have preferred, he leave her in the elevator?

Screw suspensions, how about jail time. Who the **** is the NFL to be ruling on this? It's a criminal act not a sporting infraction.

Of course, that's assuming it (punching her out) actually happened and isn't just rumour.

It's a casino. The eye in the sky misses nothing except what goes in your hotel room (hopefully). If they didn't have video of it, they'd probably say that, and it didn't happen. But everyone seems to agree that there is video, it's just not public.

I just think it's funny Terrell Pryor got five games for getting some free tattoos and money for autographs while at OSU and Rice only got two games for this. And Josh Gordon is done for the year for getting caught smoking pot twice.

None of the video I've seen showed an in-elevator perspective so if there was one, none of that video was made public. Also if the video showed Rice punching her in the face hard enough to knock her out I'd think he'd be in jail.  Let's make sure we get all the facts right before we convict the guy of something he didn't do.

FWIW, Rice was indicted back in March, pleaded not guilty, and was accepted into a diversionary program for first-time offenders to avoid a trial. Even the guilty plea that prosecutors offered him would have just been a year of probation and no jail time. The wife wasn't participating with prosecutors, which complicates things somewhat, even if they have the whole thing on video.

Yes, but you also have to be careful of coming to conclusions based on wild assumptions: "The fact she married the guy tells me she either provoked him or what he did wasn't as bad as she originally claimed." Based on the fact that we see stories all the time about women who stay with guys that beat them, this sentence makes no sense.

Also, I'm having a hard time finding any "I didn't do it" type stuff in that article or in a search on google.  It's a little bit easier to jump to the conclusion that it probably did happen, then, since it appears that there is nobody out there, Rice included, from what I can('t) find, suggesting otherwise.

Okay, I'll agree but I don't think they are wild assumptions, conversely some are suggesting he should be suspended longer but are doing so based on assumptions.

Here are the facts as I know them, there isn't any public video of him hitting her, she refused to cooperate with police, she married him, he spent time in a diversionary program but wasn't convicted of assault or domestic violence and didn't go to jail.

Would you expect to be suspended from your job and lose 1/8th or more of your annual salary based on the above circumstances?
