Just one thing to point out: despite marijuana being legalized in Colorado, I honestly haven't seen much difference. The only difference I've actually noticed is less conversation in high school hallways about trying to get a medical pot card (which they don't need) so they can smoke it.

You just don't understand that there is a serious glaucoma epidemic in high schools all around the world. 65% of high schoolers are stricken. Fact.

Yeah, and I'm certain that my school's starting quarterback with 20/20 vision is absolutely devastated by this. Good thing the coaches turn a blind eye to his treatment to allow him to recover in peace.

Hahaha, my schools QB is baked AF about 87% of the time. Quarterbacks are allowed legal weed use, it's the law!

Interesting thread! I guess with all the discussion in the DJ thread it should have been expected that this thread would eventually get created! Just tagging along until I have time to post, I am anti drugs / alcohol and hate the way they destroy families and careers! I believe people make choices to consume them and continue to make choices to consume them even to their own demise!

Out of curiosity, how old are you? There are lots of different kinds of drugs, some of which are far more destructive than others. Moderation is the key; as Ernest Jones mentioned, plenty of people do drugs such as coke and live a perfectly fine lifestyle. If you're dumb enough to do it when you're about to get drug tested for your job, then it's your fault if you get fired, not the drug's.

This whole thing is just the tip of the iceberg.

Once the stoners get their way and make pot semi-legal, coke will be the next step. Will the pro-druggies be advocating legal heroin use at that point?

I highly doubt anything like that would happen.

I can't wait until everybody can pick up a bag of cocaine (or whatever) every time they stop by the gas station. (Complete sarcasm).

There will be so many more people buying it and pushing it to underage kids it will make your head swim.

Entertaining thread though. Just glad I raised my kids when and where I did. The when was happenstance. The where was on purpose.

Wait a minute. The big argument put forth by the crowd that wanted legalization was that it would have no effect on anybody under 21 because it would still be illegal for them (yeah right).

I can respect, while disagreeing with, people who take the addiction is a disease position.

As I stated in an earlier post, you (or anyone) disagreeing that addiction is a disease doesn't make it not a disease. It's pretty much a proven fact. It has symptoms, manifestations, progression & treatment.

But...it doesn't strike randomly. And the predisposition argument means that those with a propensity know even better to stay away.

DJ and every other addict made a choice to do something he knew was dangerous.

That's where they lose sympathy.

The first time he snorted cocaine he knew it was crazy. He knew it killed people . He knew it ruined careers and reputations.

I'm not going to have pity on him because it's self inflicted. I don't see him as a victim of anything but his own arrogance and stupidity.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Have sympathy or don't have sympathy. Have pity or don't have pity. It's irrelevant as to it being a disease.

It's a self inflicted disease, you don't randomly catch it from someone.  DJ made conscious decisions to mess with addictive drugs and got hooked.  If he never snorted coke in the first place he wouldn't have the "disease".

No it isn't. The usual association with a disease is that it is something that unfairly and unfortunately afflicts an unwilling and helpless victim.

This fool chose to take cocaine. Despite a lifetime of knowing it is a killer.,

Which is also irrelevant as to how he 'caught' it. He has it. That's the point. And it can be treated if he so chooses to do so.

Again, personal opinions as to the level of sympathy someone has for an addict, are just that. Opinions.

Care to cite a medical journal on that? Or are you making up a 'usual association' of a disease to make a point that flies in the face of a mountain of medical evidence?

Hey, people who eat a lot of sweets can get diabetes. Smokers can get lung cancer. Guess you would have no sympathy for them either?

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
