Here's a good bit of info on some balls... I was talking with a Rep from a golf ball company....

They took the robot machine that swings perfect everytime.. with all the balls across the market...the high end ball.. they found a 10% difference in spin between all the balls across.. this test was from 100 yrds in....

the swing from the player is what determines the spin.

Yep. The B330 and B330S are their top balls. My ears are still ringing from the load "click" the B330S made.

That's hard to believe. Are you sure here wasn't feeding you a line. If he (or she) is anything like the marketing reps we have at our company, I wouldn't trust them farther than I could throw them :) Not doubting you. Hard to believe a Pro V1 and a Top Flite spin is only 10% different.

It's hard to believe if you think that a TopFlite is being thrown in there as a high end ball. I'm pretty sure it just means the top of the line balls from Titleist, TaylorMade, Bridgestone, Nike, Srixon.

I would say a 10% difference in spin among the high end/top grade balls is a significant difference.

LOL! You putt Bridgestone better than ProV1...Boy are you a golf store's dream customer. Don't wanna razz u too hard, I know it's fun to get all into the technology....but that's a little too silly. 100% mental. Your putting is not influenced by any ball technology whatsoever. Not one bit. Zero.

I reread the post. I see I missed the part about only high end balls. That makes more sense for sure.

You are probably right, it probably is 100% mental. That being said, mental is a big part of putting. But I have a hard time believing that every ball responds exactly the same to an identical putting stroke. I guess I will drop both balls on concrete and see if they bounce exactly the same.

Also, I freely admit that I suck at golf. I have gotten my truly embarrassing shots, you know, fat mishits, pop flies off the tee, skulled wedges, down to around three per nine holes, on average. I don't play enough to keep a handicap, but have so many other things to work on, my putting ain't broke with the e6.

I would like to see the report from that test, because it differs from every other ball test I've seen.

It should not change ball direction much (if at all) but can influence how far the ball rolls past a hole.    But once you get used to putting with one ball, I am with Vinsk that the difference should be negligible.  But IMO big part of golf is a mental game.  If you believe you can put with one ball better over another, why not?   Some golfers change their driver every other year thinking a new and improved driver technology will give better result.  98% of the time, it won't do much after the initial WOW factor dies off.

I think the ball makes more difference than you think. I really do putt better with certain balls. For instance, I really hate a ball that "clicks" off the putter face. I almost anticipate the sound which distracts me from what I should be thinking about, which is pace and tempo. Some balls seem to "jump" off the face. I don't know if they really do or not, but perception is reality in the world of golf.

I like the ProV1's, but part of the reason is that I can purchase them for $33 a dozen at my home course, making them no more expensive than other balls. That said, until I got into the single digits I absolutely hated ProV1's. They spun more than other balls and I would slice them noticably more. Once I fixed the slice off the tee and spin became a non-issue, I started to play them more frequently.

Ha. $33 per dozen. How about $15 per dozen at the high end.

Of course, you and your 1.8 handicap, probably keep a ball 50 or 60 holes longer than my ball-spraying self.

I stopped by a Sports Authority today and they had a range where I could find out my swing speed. It was a long, long time ago that I last checked it. I did a couple of toe touches to stretch the back, but still felt stiff. Three swings were 105, 105, 107. With a little more stretching and some Advil, it might be a little higher. But I think I'm going to use a ball geared for a lower swing speed. On the course I would probably swing a little easier to get the ball in play. So I think the choice will be between the B330 RXS (if it comes in yellow) or the Titleist NXT Tour S (yellow).

I did an hour or so of putting and chipping with the B330 RXS and the Titleist NXT Tour S. There really wasn't much difference, but I'm going with the Titleist NXT Tour S. I also tested a Pro V1, Bridgestone e6 and Nike Red RZN. The Pro V1 checked too much on my chips. The Nike and e6 were both excellent chipping and putting. I am really surprised how good the e6 felt. This weekend I'm going to give then a try on the course..

Very disappointed. Although I shot pretty good (another 74), the Titleist NXT Tour S has no stopping power on the green. This directly led to 3 bogeys compared to the ball I normally use. I love how they feel off the driver and irons though. The NXT checked more than the Bridgestone e6.

So the 3 bogey's came from the ball?... or maybe you just missed some putts?...
