Alright boys and girls, the results are in.

I'm pleased, but very surprised to say that the golf gods did NOT give me the beat down that I so richly deserved.

I played a solid round.  Only made one really long putt, about 25' for my only birdie, but nothing really heroic.....and 2 missed putts under 6 feet.

Final results:

1.  My total score:  77

2.  # of birdies (or better):  1

3.  # bogies:  6

4.  # doubles (or worse):  ZERO......thank you @andwilk , @dfreuter415 , and @JetFan1983 who predicted 0.  To heck with the rest of you rat bastards.....8 of whom predicted 2 or more!

5.  Final match play results (win/lose and score) against my sandbagging 4 hcp buddy (I get 2 strokes):  I won.....5&4!  He had a tough day, shooting 78 with 2 birdies after the match was over.

The winner of the contest.....and the only one to predict the correct score of 77:

@Slice of Life !

Also one of only 5 of 18 that predicted that I'd win the match.  Thanks buddy! I'll PM you for your info and get your ball mark in the mail to you.

Thanks for playing everyone!  Believe it or not, I had a real reason for doing this.  Boredom and natural narcissism ( :-D ) notwithstanding, who can guess what that real reason was?

Begin "Final Jeopardy" music.......

In David's bag....

Well done!!  How did you place in the tournament??  (That is, I mean, before I call up the committee to inform them that you must be disqualified for playing match play at the same time ;-) )

And ... I have no idea what your real reason was. :)  It was fun though!

Thanks!  No tournament today.....just a match with my buddy.

Tournament is in 2 weeks.  I know you play a lot of tournament golf......that could give you some insight as to why I did this today.

Wow, that would have completely changed my answer.  I had it in my head that this was the Senior tourney that you signed up for and was why I guessed you'd shoot a little worse than what you'd been doing.  I would have guessed a little lower if I had better reading comprehension. :-P

Nice round, @David in FL ! Great job on winning your match, too! I have no idea why you did this game. Given my track record for predictions, I'm more likely to be right by not making one, so I'll wait patiently for the final answer.

OK, you're doing a little experiment to see what people will guess this time, versus what they will guess for the actual tournament ... to get a feel for who thinks people play worse in tournaments versus who plays better.  Something in that realm??

score 82

birdies 2

bogeys 6

doubles or worse 3

final match-3 and 2

oops.sorry.... I gave my guess without even seeing you already posted results.Only thing I got right was the bogeys.Since you made no doubles that's where I didn't have faith in you plus I figured you would lose 3-2 shooting 82.

More to add pressure to your round today to see how you'd shoot with everyone anticipating a score from you? Simulated tournament? haha

Ding ding ding! Exactly. I've only played one small club tournament this year. The best way to get used to pressure is to play under pressure. I knew that having all of you watching today, not wanting to embarrass myself, and having to be completely honest because a prize was riding on it would add pressure to my round today, and it did. Sounds silly, but I was very aware of how every 3-foot putt would affect my score and ultimately this "contest" today. Gotta say, it worked well. I'm pretty proud of myself. :-)

Hmmm, gotta say I've never thought of this before, and, frankly, it's quite genius. (I may steal this idea at a later date ;))

Hi David, congrats on your score. Missed the thread by a day. Let's help to get you some extra pressure during your next round. I bet you will not be able to score lower then 80 (same course or one that is as difficult). If you do, I will buy you a nice dinner at Millers alehouse. If you don't you will have to pay beer for me and my Dutch buddies next time we play together. Edit: to be sure on a 18 holes par 72 course :-P

    • Day 8: Indoor backswing work, mostly rehearsals of takeaway. Hit some balls wtih 6-iron working on adding flow, but not too Much which I tend to do, swaying too far away from target.
    • Day 55: 4/18/2024 Got to the range again today. Planned to do my priority pieces and then hit targets with irons. But after my priority pieces I hit a few drives and tugged them all hard left. .... Uh... oh boy.  So, I spent about a half hour trying to hit targets at the range with my driver.
    • Day 126 (18 Apr 24) - Trail arm only drill with the LW…focused on letting the club drop, engaging the bounce and letting the club pop the ball up….wrapped up by repeating drill with both hands on the club…
    • OPPs, I guess I have been doing the drill incorrectly, just ignore this.  But as they say, mistakes are learning opportunities. Let’s hope I can learn from mine.
    • Some thoughts after the 1st 9 holes of the year. The driver was pretty good, nothing crazy. My miss seems to be just a push. The start line is a bit too far right for my taste, but they are drawing back at least. Hitting middle-ish of the face to slightly toe. Part of the right miss is a bit of open face and off the toe slightly.  Irons, some really good strikes, others were not so good. I am feeling a few things, when I am being mindful of the swing I made.  1) Got to get the pause down again, and keep things shorter (as usual). One of the best iron shots was when I tried to mimic Rahm's swing length, lol. I caught a flier and hit an 8-iron like 190 yards into an area of no return for that golf ball. The swing felt great 😉  2) I got to stay taller in transition, feel like I gain tons of space between my hands and my chest. The bad swing is the old swing, bad right elbow, tilt to lower the club. This was too much shallowing, and hitting the ball fat. I just think of it this way, you are bent over, and you can reach the ball at address. So, you can reach the ball at impact by getting your hands down.  3) The final thing is the timing. It might take some time to get some flow into the swing. Timing up hands down and the turn is a bit off. Focusing on the hands down kind of stalls everything for me, at least it feels like my hips do not turn. I end up hitting a decent strike, just feels meh athletically, lol.  Short game was Ok, which means pretty good for not practicing it. Not short, but not round destroying.  Putting, doing much better now that I quickened up my routine. Line up, looking at my target. Glance down at the ball to get into my stance. Glance up at my target spot again, then hit the ball with in like 1-2 seconds after looking back down at the ball. Trying not to get to static over the ball while putting.
