Would anyone know the difference if any between the retail vs. tour ?
Is there a tour version? i know about a Prototype, but i believe that was before the X-forged went retail? I could be wrong.

Anyone with any insight would be greatly appreciated. Apparently the price is significantly different, the only vague explanation I've seen is, the Tour have no serial number(but this is typical with any Tour) and better forging?

thanks

Great article, I encourage alot of people to read it. The reason why I asked was because, someone was trying to sell X-Forge heads only for 1350.00 i said WTF!! is so specially about those heads?? But I'm sure some crazy nut will buy it.

There is a difference between "Tour issue" and "Tour version".

For Callaway, they offer (usually at no extra cost) a retail club version that they call "tour", just like TM does with their TP versions. They are slightly different in spec, things like offset, sole width and head size are different to accomidate the more advanced players.

In terms of the X-Forged, they are "Player" clubs so they are already what Callaway would condiser their "tour" version, to put it simply, they do not make a "non-tour" version of the X-Forged. Now that's not to say they don't have "Tour issue" which the tour players have demoed or tested. On that line I agree with Supercow that it makes very little sense to purchase "Tour issue" equipement for the purposes of playing with, for collecting sure why not but if you were good enough to be using "tour issue" equipment then you wouldn't need to buy it, they would be giving it to you for free :P

What does everyone think about these wedges? Personally I feel like they're a bit underrated. I love my 56* SW and 60* LW Callaway X-Forged wedges, and I think that they compare favorably with my friend's Cleveland wedges. I don't know if its just the marketing but I like the "mack daddy" grooves.

So what does everyone think about these wedges?

I have the X-Tour Chrome and I really, really like it. I just got it like two weeks ago, and it's just got a great feel. I loved my Nike SV Tour but this is comparable, and probably even superior in feel and just overall quality.

Love them. They have a solid, heavy feel, and they set up very nicely. I have forged clubs all the way through my set, like butter!

The Mack Daddy grooves are ridiculous when they're new. Too much spin for my taste. But after they wear down a little bit I think they are great.

I've got the 52 degree and really like it. I tested out titleist, cleveland and a few others and it felt the best for me.

My only problem is I seem to hit it a tad thin more than my other wedges but I think it's kinda in my head since I just got the club a month or so ago.

i rock the 56 and love it, beter than my old Vokey
i just wish they made a 52 w less bounce, as i use it from the FW most of the time, I like it to dig in more
nice at address...i didnt get the MD grooves though and it still spins nice
i hit into a 95yd Par 3 (was actually about 115, but downhill) hit it full and she came back about 3 ft for me

I have the 52*, 56*MD and 60* MD with the C-Grind...couldn't be happier with them. I'm still dialing in some distances, especially with my gap wedge, but I'm not disappointed with my wedges. The MD grooves have chewed through a dozen balls so far but that's to be expected.

i have the 60* MD with C-grind and i love it! the weight/balance is perfect and the spin is excellent. make sure you wear the groove a bit with range balls coz the MD grooves will eat your ball (even on half swings).

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
    • They've been chuckling since they hooked the shark. I think Greg doesn't realize the jokes on him.
