, I know, but aren't those non-conforming (i.e., illegal)?

I can't find them on the USGA conforming list. But then again, I can't find any Top Flite either, so I don't know.

I usually have around a dozen.  There are times when I'm on the course and I'll hit 4 or 5 balls from a certain shot when I'm practicing on the course.

I usually carry about 6-8 playable balls. That many from my losing lots of ball days. I also have probably a dozen that have been damaged

by a tree or cart path in a separate pocket for transfer to my shag bag for field practice. There are so many in there because I forget

to take them out and it is a good backup if I have a REALLY bad day :-D

I have never been ticketed when pulled over.  But I am careful when the golf cops are out.

Surely K-mart wouldn't sell dirty balls?

But I agree they are not very conforming! :-P

Just cheap...

I carry 9 balls max, two of which are different color to be used as provision balls.  On average, I lose 2 - 4 balls per round due to OB, water hazard, ball not found.   On the other hand, my wife uses one ball most of the times although she carries about a dozen.   In fact, she played all 4 Bandon Dunes courses last week with one ball which I retired to my shag bag afterward.   I probably lost 1/2 dozen in the same span.

For a regular day,  I usually carry 2 sleeves of Zstars and have a collection of 3-6 older ones.  When playing a scramble, I carry at least a dozen.  I tend to donate quite a few balls with shots I would never take if we didn't already have a safe one.

One ball on four courses any where is a great run of golf. I have golfed at all those Bandon courses myself and have lost balls to them. I hope you bought your wife a nice dinner for her tremendous accomplishment.

I like to keep my ball compartment topped up (15-20) I tend to lose quite a few as I always try harder shots than my skill level, I will try and cut or draw a ball onto a green from 150+ yds and sometimes it goes straight....lost. Ive been golfing for about 6 yrs and play a lot. I play way to many risky shots and I tend to play quickly, especially when I go out alone. On a good round I will go maybe 9 holes before I lose one. Many times I will play my shot, then decide I want to try a couple of other shots, which can lead to a few lost balls. My local course is tight and it's easy to lose balls in the bush. If it's a quiet day or slow round, I will look for one that I lose and often find lots to restock. If I have a stressful day, I can lose lots. I would hate to run out mid-round.

Chuckle.  She gets to keep the 23 other new balls I bought for her.  Someone warned us to bring lots of balls b/c we will lose them at Bandon.  I bought two dozen new balls for her just for the occasion.   That's going to last her a year unless I have a bad day and borrow her balls.

I keep a dozen or so in my bag. Most are new with a 2 or 3 old ones just for hitting extra practice shots when playing by myself. During a normal round I use a couple.

At least 2 dozen. I don't walk so it really doesn't matter weight wise. I never would have given it any thought had I not seen this thread. I'm surprised you guys carry so few.

I usually have about a half dozen used balls in decent shape and a sleeve of new ones. I'll always start a round with a new ball and have one of the used ones in my pocket for provisional shots.

Why do you keep it in your pocket?

I probably hit a provisional once every 3 months.

WTH is a "performance ball"? Just when you think you've heard it all...........................:bugout:

I get what he means. I do the same. Most of the balls in the bag are "performance" or serious play balls. Then I have a few or a ton of balls I term junk but are perfectly fine for some others, that are used for practice if I don't feel like picking them up or donated at the range. I usually start with 15ish performance balls (ones that I like) and if I don't regularly empty my bag, I may end up with almost 4 dozen in it.

I usually buy a new dozen when I get down to about 3 or so balls. Throw a couple sleeves in and off I go. I walk and don't see the need to carry a bunch of balls bulking up my bag.

I usually have twenty. Balls suffering cart path damage get replaced immediately. I played Thursday and lost one in the middle of the fairway.

    • Committing to one brand of ball this year - Snell MTB Prime X, the 5 doz. pack. Like how they perform for me. At $18/doz., can live with cover scuffing. Iron regripping with GolfPrice MCC+4 Teams std. in red/navy. May be retiring Odyssey Dual Force after 30 yrs. Seems like I can't get it to the hole anymore. Kind of light and has lots of toe hang. My reg. group's hounding finally wore me down.    From Callaway preowned - trying out the Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K in double wide (less toe hang) and triple wide (face balanced). Both also noticeably heavier...we shall see.
    • WOW, it looks like he has been hitting stones with that putter to put all of those nicks into it.  I can't see how a ball would cause many those dings.
    • I'm fighting a knee as well as a foot so I "Feel your pain".  Luckily for me the PT is helping at this time and I am hoping knee surgery is not imminent.  Best of luck to you.
    • I would guess putting grooves in it might make it non-conforming. I am not sure how stringent the USGA is on restoring golf clubs.
    • If PT doesn't work, then all other options (shots) are just temporary bandages of the pain. You may do more damage. Pain is the bodies way of telling you to STOP. Once you get rid of that, you are just now using an already damaged body part and put more stress and strain on it.
