I've read the back posts to get caught up. I'm a little confused. I don't mean to be a basher at all...just curious ok?

I'm not sure I understand the benefit of a good sized guy swinging outta his shoes and hitting a huge banana slice. The balls I watched on the video were slicing horribly. I'm 6'3 and 245 and if I swing outta my shoes I can sail a golfball to a different area code but it does no good for a round of golf. What exactly is it here that's exceptional?

Then you read that I was hitting down on the ball and creating too much backspin. I was trying to hit the ball on the up swing with the ball way further to the left then I am usually used to, this swing in the video is completely different swing that I normally do. That is the reason for the slice. When I have the ball in mid stance I rarely slice it, if anything I tend to draw or hook the ball.

having two OB and your swing on camera makes it look like you can't really be consistent. However shooting 82 despite all that makes it sound you have a very strong game. If you really can make it work for you like that congrats. Although everybody can benefit from some lessons so I guess you would too. You might lose some distance though :) Amazing thread hehe good luck

Ok. But backspin doesn't cause slicing. Backspin gets the ball in the air. Hitting across the ball from right to left or an open clubface does.

That is not the reason for a slice. The reason for a slice is poor swing technique.

You may fade the ball slightly with it further forward in the stance but typically one can overcome a fade by closing the stance slightly.

Ball in mid stance - I would guess you are making contact while the swing is slightly in to out with a slightly open club face but still hitting down on the ball.

Work on technique with someone.

I can get it up and down when I need to.

Certainly, you can do that. But this was my first attempt swinging like this. Everything was out of wack. As you can see I was letting the club go on my drives, and to add to this I was told I was not allowed to use the driver as I was going over the net. Look at my irons and 3 wood, they are pretty much straight.

JapanDave - Not to hijack your thread, but I was curious about the speed monitor that you purchased.  It looks like the Yupiteru GST-4.  It also looks like it will convert from M/S to MPH.  I was on the Yupiteru website and it appears that this model is no longer being manufactured.  The GST 5W and GST 6W are monochrome (which is fine with me), but they don't seem to do a conversion from M/S to MPH.  Do you know any other Japanese speed monitors similar to this that will convert to MPH?  I can pick up a GST-5W on ebay for around $100 which is much cheaper than the Ernest Sports monitors sold here in the states.  I don't mind going through the hassle of converting the speed myself, but was just curious since you are over there.  I travel to Japan 3-4 times per year and if I don't purchase on ebay, will stop in a golf shop on my next trip.  I very much like that it has head speed, ball speed and smash factor.  Don't care as much about distances as I know these are just estimates.

I had look on their web page, but they say nothing of MPH. I will have further look, I will get back to you.

Anyway, I found a nice club that was suggested to me here in the gear forum, the Big Bertha mini 1.5. It has a great feel to it.

This video is the very first time I hit it. I need to make a few adjustments, but it really hits well. The club is 44" and my top club head speed was 135mph and after the first few shots getting used to the club, most of them were OK. Much more consistent than my driver.

Sorry if this is a little off-topic, but I find it very cool that they designed the mat to automatically place a new golf ball on the tee for you after each shot.

140 mph club head speed is about 10% faster than anyone on the PGA tour. So you have elite level ability, presuming the measurement is correct, etc. I can't imagine it would be difficult in the least to fix your problem. Just find a high end club fitter who can give you multiple clubs with different lofts, face angle, shafts, etc., until you find one which gives you the parameters you need to hit the driver further.  If you really do generate that kind of club head speed, you probably need shafts that are much stiffer than anything stock/OEM in ~any~ driver brand out there, which means you absolutely must find a fitter that has tour spec clubs for you to test.

For those who are skeptical, I can understand why, but I don't think what he is saying is impossible. The assistant pro at my humble little NJ club has 122mph swing speed, so the ability to do this isn't as rare as we might think. Now,,the ability to swing that hard with control? That's another story.

Looking at your video, though, I would not have guessed that your swing is generating 135mph club head speed. You are clearly swinging fast, but it doesn't look faster than tour to me. Not saying it isn't a correct measurement, but it doesn't look like that to me. Maybe someone who sees lots of swings could weigh in....I'm not trying to flame the OP, I'm just curious about what I am or am not seeing.

Another issue is his driver faces cracking, and I wouldn't get too fancy with club heads and such. It get's pretty expensive having a high swing speed like that.

Also, I was trying to hit the ball with it much closer to my left foot, which was mainly the cause of the slices. I usually have it a lot further away from my left foot which is why I tend to hit down on the ball and create more back spin.

I can't remember how many times I hit the driver, but just as I was getting into my rhythm I was told to stop using it. I am pretty sure I can go a little faster. I am going to try and get to the range a bit more, one that won't kick me out and get back into shape again. Posting here has given me the bug back again.

If you are using that range exclusively, I would hold off on the ball position adjustment. That auto ball mechanism seems to tee up the ball very low. I don't think that would work well with a forward ball position and 'hitting up' shallow to positive angle of attack swing path through the ball. Also I would expect that you would tend to be a bit thin with your strikes relative to the driver sweet spot (designed for 2.25" tees) that would tend to add to any spin you are generating. Is where your driver face aligns with the ball like on the 'lower tee height' example in the pic below? If the ball is in contact with a lower point (below mid-face) you will be hitting most shots thin.

If the range shown is where you grooved your swing, I would pin your tendency to 'hit down' with on the low to the mat ball-feeder. See if you can get some plastic tees like they use on the Golf Channel for the simulator so you have room for the club to elevate as it comes through the ball.

Where'd you get the Ryder Cup swag?

Not sure if you know or not, but his driver is a Big Bertha mini-driver 1.5. It's like a hyped up 3W. I know that aside from my post, the assumption is that he is using a normal driver? Not sure?

@Pretzel, yeah, that is a great feature.

@Big Lex. I am not sure if you saw this vid, but this is with a 45" driver.

@Lihu,I also snapped a driver at the neck once.

@Mike Boatright, the best I have hit on a coarse off the tee is 390 yards on a flat hole with minimal wind and I did not get much roll out. I have about a dozen witnesses, but does me no good on a forum in the States. Check the vid above, I took some measurements.

@natureboy, those automatic tees are fully adjustable from zero to about 2 1/2 inches. Check the vid in this post above when I am hitting with the driver when I was trying to hit up on the ball. That is not my usual swing BTW.

I believe you now.  You set up verrrrrry extended and you can see by the whip of the club on the follow thru how much speed you have.

What do you do when you have an 80 yard shot?

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
