Thats because you do need to make a different swing with your driver than your irons! The fact we're trying to hit up with the driver versus down with the irons makes for a very different feeling swing. That's were so many go wrong i.e. trying to swing all clubs the same way.

Also adding an inch to your clubs is quite severe! Unless you're 6'6''+ tall or have very short arms I'd be very wary of having length added to any club. I'm 6'3'' and made that mistake thinking I needed the extra length but it just makes clubs heavier and less stable and I play far better with standard length. A lot of pro's have their clubs shortened (especially driver) for added control.

BTW I too struggle with and am working on removing lateral hip movement and the 'feels' you need to have during the swing to achieve it are ridiculous and feel awful! I have to feel like my right hip is turning backwards and around towards my left heel whilst my left shoulder is going away from my target towards my right toes. I can honestly say for myself that my bad driver swings come from not rotating properly behind the ball and coming a little over the top on downswing as a result so be aware of that. You cant get away with it a little more with irons but driving requires a good turn whereby you dont lose spine angle or bump your hips away from target.

Well, not to say that the swing is exactly the same I guess; but the general mechanics of it are. The address should take care of differences in club lengths ( ball more forward, axis tilt, standing further from the ball ) all seem to flatten the swing plane and produce the driver swing as an example. What I mean is that I just 'feel' uncomfortable in my swing which is probably mental / over thinking.

I was/am a bit weary of adding an inch, but that was the suggestion from the lessons / fittings I had done; he said possibly even 1.5''. I do have pretty short arms for my size ( I'm 6'2'' ) so idk, maybe get a second opinion?

Back on the hip turn to the bold; that seems like my issue as well. I'm overly conscience of it during my driver swings and leads to bad things lol

Played a few rounds since the last update.

Shot 95 on a course I hadn't played, not great... lot of trouble off the tee.

Also played my local muni course, and got my first eagle! :)

Almost feels like cheating since it only a 230 yard par 4 ... pin was on the front of the green and I hit a 3 iron to about 6'.

Other than my first 2 holes ( double, triple bogey ) I played great with all pars/bogeys. Ended up with a +13 which is close to my best round there.

Thanks Jon!

Just finished adding 1/2'' to my irons. I ended up getting remeasured, being 6'2'' with a 37'' wrist-to-floor measurement. The 1.5'' that was suggested seemed a bit crazy.

Did the extensions and regripping myself, probably will take them to check the lie angle next week sometime to see if they do need to be adjusted.

Still no vids! Been playing more often than going to the range.

Decent round yesterday, I think I was +19 but it was my first round with 2 birdies. I had 2 holes where I hit approach shots into the water, that resulted in 2 triples... otherwise woulda been a really good round.

Looks like I need to get back to focusing on keeping my head steady in the back swing. I haven't been focusing on it as much ( practice and swing thought ) and it shows... I don't look to be sliding back with my hips, which is good. Almost looks like I'm getting some distance from the centered hipturn

Just gotta get the head in check.

Also seems like I'm casting the club, but will work on that in time.

Had a pretty crappy range session yesterday, but put in a lot of extra time putting afterwards and at home recently.

Had an insane round today. Again at my local muni course... +6 through 18. FIVE birdies, all on the front 9.  ( third row is putts )

edit: apparently I misclicked when entering into my app.. actually had a bogey on 18.

I started on the back 9, so I was thinking I was having a pretty good round. Doubled on the 1st after hitting my second shot short in some water :(

Proceeded to have the craziest/best 9 holes I've ever played lol. Haven't had more than 2 birdies in a full 18, nor have I hit birdies back to back.

Biggest take away for me was seven 1 putts, no 3 putts... Hit almost all my fairways on par4s and hit a ton of greens. Best I have ever played by far :D

Hmmm, new site looks good; but do I need to reupload/reattach my old videos?

Nope. :-) You're all set.

Got some updated videos. Feeling much better with my irons lately, struggling a little with the driver since I have been playing mostly executive courses without the need to even hit it.

Been working on getting my head quieter in the back swing, still tends to drift a little when I go deep into my back swing. Struggling with a slice on the driver, if I open my stance a bit and aim the face between where my feet are lined up and my target I can get to a manageable fade... but I'm not sure if this is a bandaid fix.

Oh nice! The videos got embedded lol, was that a mods doing or just happens with time? If a mod did it, could you let me know what I did wrong so I can correct the future?

On the videos, notice a few things:

  • Head drops in the swing, not so much back/forward. Definitely moving down still though
  • Feel like my grip is looking much better
  • Catching my driver on the heel of the club a bit, but seems like I was set up that way to begin with.
  • Didn't notice my camera was super uneven until after I uploaded the videos :/

    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
