Sitting here today I'd have to say the ping i3's. I'm drooling over the S55's right now though. Id like to hit them. I'm probably not good enough to have them but they are beautiful. A hacker can dream can't he ;-)

i20, duh.  What is there not to like?  Precision for the expert golfers and mucho forgiveness for all, with nice looks to boot.

Let me put it this way, if the i20 irons came out in 1985, the eye2 would be completely forgotten by now and the G series wouldn't have even been necessary.  Wish I could find a set in my price range but I fear that I'm in for a long wait.

Well duh, the i20 is made with 20 years of technological advancement over the eye2.

I played Ping Eye2 clones from 1994 to 2008. These were Pro Tour Black heads (2* flat), fitted with Dynalite S300 shafts. Felt identical to actual Eye2 irons I tried on occasion. Fat forward: At a golf scramble this spring, the guy next to me on the practice range was hitting original Eye2 irons, and stroked one solid shot after another.

I've been to winter golf expos the last couple of years, and in recent times it appears the G15 and G20 irons are comparable in popularity. Fitters like these latter G-series irons because they offer a variety of shafts, and thus can service a wide range of golfers.

Did the same. Bought Eye2+ two seasons ago. $100 in a used bin at GC. 5 through W. Just bought them for the nostalgia. No fitting, no thought. Got my own grips put on. Grips were crumbling.

Contact just feels so right. Used them exclusively this season. They have replaced a GI set with graphite. 

And when golfing with strangers, often creates something to chat about. Especially Ping users.

Wow, @donks1023 bringing an old thread back from the dead. 

Anyway, in my opinion. (Opinions are like backsides we all have them and we all think everyone else's stink) Eye2's are the greatest Ping irons of all time. They were revolutionary at the time. They STILL perform great. They were the best selling irons year after year for like a decade or some ridiculous thing. Even today they are still the best selling set of irons of all time. 

Having said that. I actually preferred the Ping Zings. I played Ping Zings for a long time. They were in my bag for more years than any other iron. 

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs. 

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

I just bought a used set of G25, senior graphite shaft in 5-U wedge. I hit about two bags of balls with them before our season ended. I liked them, but we’ll see how they work in about four months. My shortened G15’s are going to my grandson. I played them for about 10 years until a PGA guy cut them a inch short. I never could get over that.

I also stumbled onto a 1988 Eye 2 sand wedge with square grooves. I have a new grip on it and the club looks slightly used. It will be fun practicing with it when the snow is gone.

I always thought the Ping Eye 2 plus no plus was the best ever.
I also saw where a club tester compared the Ping Eye2 against a couple of top irons a few years back and the Eye2 was better in distance and grouping which shocked me a little. I can see that though when using the average and he was using the average.  
I still throw my Ping Eye2 SW in the bag when I know the sand is going to be fluffy. lol

      Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.

      Day 55: 4/18/2024 Got to the range again today. Planned to do my priority pieces and then hit targets with irons. But after my priority pieces I hit a few drives and tugged them all hard left. .... Uh... oh boy.  So, I spent about a half hour trying to hit targets at the range with my driver.
