Easier way to close clubface to get a draw?

I began playing golf about 30 years ago.  I was somewhat of a weak player...a good drive for me was 210 yds, but I hit it straight as an arrow.  Because of my lack of power, and confidence in my long irons, I never used my 3, 4, 5, or 6 iron.  My 5 wood was my substitute for all of them, I could control it well.  I stopped playing about 15 years ago, and just recently started back.  I was determined to learn how to hit every club in the bag, because before, my cap scores had been the low 80's, and I figured that I could shot much better using all the clubs in my back.  Before, I played my driver, 3 and 5 woods, and my 7, 8, 9, or P and my short game became my savior, but on par 5s and longer par 4s, I was very lucky to ever be on in 2...l generally had to rely on my chipping and putting, which was excellent.  This time around, I decided to try and learn how to use my long irons, so I went to the driving range one day to do it, and the first shot I took with my 3 iron, went 180 yards straight down the middle, and I've been an excellent long, mid iron player since.  I don't know how or why, it just clicked.  My reason for this verbose history on my game is for this question:  Since I didn't use my long irons before, and couldn't get a lot of distance on my drives or fairway woods, which has also came to me suddenly, I was never required to use a draw.  With my new skills, I believe that learning this would give me good shots at shooting under 80 consistently.  I understand the mechanics of a draw, but is there a way I can use my grip to force the club face closed on impact to get the spin necessary for a draw?  Can anyone give me some simple tips to do this rather than, "The clubface must close on impact"...how can I do this?

I apologize for the long post!

Couple of things- go to a bit more from inside to out swing. OR Strengthen your left hand grip (if righty) a bit. If you have good basics with a neutral grip, a stronger grip might give that little draw.

Someone else might comment on whether you want to attempt to ingrain a draw or not, but I just wanted to point out that you got it wrong, or rather your source does.

" The ball draws or hooks if the path is right of the face."

You do not want to close the face on impact. If you want a nice push-draw (starts out right and curves back to the target), you actually want the clubface open to the target line, but still left of the swing path.

No expert by any means, and really not even that great of a golfer, but this has been what has helped me: I move the ball slightly further back in my stance, setup further away from the ball (the ball is lined up on about the toe of the club so I have to reach for it), and drop my right foot back so that my feet are pointing right of my target.

I'll echo this.

I've been using the push draw set-up this season and it's been loads of fun.

Check out the 2nd link above: target line, club open a bit relative to target line, path open a bit more relative to target line (more than the face is). Ball starts right and draws back.

Play the ball back one ball-width and a little forward shaft lean helps.

Give it a try.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, and I never slice.

I find that when I draw with my irons my left hand holds the club strong and my right hand works more parallel with my left I don't feel like I'm manipulating with my hands to close the clubface. The draw is made from my swing plane Currently I like to feel like there is passive pressure points just below my left hand where my right hand meets the shaft to monitor my draw What does happen to me if my right arm /hand gets to active is hook snap However I turn my hands more neutral and torque the shaft towards the lower shaft to counteract this. What hogan says to "weaken" the grip if hooking works for me

Thank you guys for the advice.  Knowing a bit about physics, I should have considered the 'gear affect' in terms of clubface contact with the ball.  The push-draw sounds like what I need to be trying.  Closing the face on impact can actually cause a fade or slice, and I didn't consider that, but with your help, I think I can see how that would work.  Thanks again!

Keep the upper part of your right arm in toward your side. I keep mine pretty tight naturally and all I hit are draws.
