Adults can be such douche-bags.

Good job by both Spieth, his caddie and the vice chairman of operations for the tournament.

If I were a pro, I would only give autographs to kids. Adult males who crowd around pros for autographs are losers.

I never understood why an adult would seek someone's autograph. Do they need to sell it? Do they need money that badly?

Or are they asking because they're a fan? That's really freaky.

Personally, I would never ask someone for their autograph.

+1.

I don't understand why an adult would seek an autograph either.  My guess is mainly for $$$.

Of course some kids are hired by adults to seek autographs and then turn it around and sell them - douchebags.

Agree. I haven't asked for an autograph in 40+ years.

They're on the same level as adults who bring gloves to baseball games

After that lady got her skull fractured at Fenway by a broken bat, they would be smarter to wear a batting helmet. But, the little kids with gloves are so cute!

If I was at a PGA event, I would block for the kids or at least ask the adults to let the kids go first.

Just for the money, in fact, many of them do it for a living... That is all they do, get them, turn them over for cash on EBay, etc. It is really bad way to make a living and ALL sports should stop it. Easy enough in this situation. Make it 14 and below, age wise, also, make the barrier a double one, and two or 3 single file lines to it. Easy, yet they feel it promotes the game. Get the names out on tickets, create a buzz and helps the economy. Just looking at that picture makes ya sick, the guy in RED with the cheap sleazy sunglasses on. He is the one, he did it !

El Tiante'! He's a fixture at Fenway. He has a restaurant just outside the park on gamedays. I met him a few years ago and shook his hand.  No autograph though.

It is 99% for money.  When I went to the BMW playoff event last year, there was a guy with Flags, hats, shoes, etc. to try and get autographs on.  It was pretty pathetic to see actually.

Everybody else knew what he was doing but he claimed he is just a collector...

I'm not sure who buys the stuff.  As an adult, I have NO desire to own anybody else's shoes with their autograph on them.

A few years ago I gave a little dude $5 to take my pin flag up and have Phil sign it at TPC Sawgrass. Its hanging on my wall. I think its kind of cool but its not like I bring 10 flags to get signed. It was kind of spur of the moment since I was standing there when he came off 18, and it was my 5th time at TPC, so I could've had several before then.

Guys that would push kids out of the way for an autograph also park in the expecting mothers spot at the mall.

  • 1 year later...

Jordan got a little upset at this concept again.  I've never personally seen the allure of an autograph, I'd rather have a picture with someone or another way to remember a moment.  I say good for Jordan for saying something.

Agree. I don't ever ask for autographs. Maybe a handshake and a hello.

    • No, they will collect the "Stay & Play" cost at the Virtues on Sunday. I was a little surprised by that, I would collect on Saturday, but I guess the person doing the reservations & bills is located at the Virtues.  I think we can trust that none of us are going to run out on the bill and leave us in a lurch.
    • Thanks for following up. Since you're going to be booking the stay and play packages, does that mean you have to put up the money up front?
    • They're playing 16 games in each match though. Don't need much of an advantage before that number of players significantly loads things in their favor. The other team has to win 8.5 games to beat them. At a 65/35 split, that's a lot and pretty unlikely (about 10% of the time).
    • Why does the second sentence have to be true? If they're used to playing a tough course that's improperly rated, they're going to both have inflated indexes and have higher skills relative to them. If their home course features a variety of different challenges, I don't see why their game wouldn't travel well. And on the flip side, some courses and their members take pride in how hard their course is and how tough it's rated, and that bit of vanity ends up hurting them in these kinds of competitions.
    • I discussed it today but can call back and re-confirm.  I would love to be wrong on that point. Note: That may have been before they changed the hotel due to lack of room at Hampton Inn. Update on Friday Hotel: If I can give a count to EagleSticks they can get us a discount on Friday night at the hotel.  I do not have the $$ but should be much lower than the $249 the hotel quoted me. I do not have my list with me for the Friday hotels but if you want one, please post ASAP and I will get the rate and get them held. Thanks @billchao for catching this.
