You cannot go wrong with Tour Edge Exotics XCG7 or the beta model... They are long as hell and are very user friendly... And considering the EX-9s are coming out next month... They will be on clearance... I don't play the XCG7 model (couldn't afford it at the time, I play XRail)...

The best part of the Exotics clubs and all Tour Edge clubs... LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY, their Customer Service is second to none...

And the XCG7 is going to be your least expensive option, and last I knew they are still an in-line club so if you need your Fairways customized and don't mind waiting a few extra days, any customization on New Tour Edge clubs is free with purchase, they are awesome to work with.

Can't help you, I'm a Callaway guy when it comes to fairways - surprised the XR, GBB, or 816 is not on your list.

jchez44,

You say you are  "in need of a change." Why? If you have an FW that works, don't be in a hurry to replace it.

yes, i hit my 3 wood just ok both off the tee and from the fairway. i think im short changing myself distance wise. i tend to hit it high and i get some ballooning

What flex shaft do you have in the XHot 3W? How does this compare to your driver and irons?

The stock shaft was the Project Xv, more to the light side on weight.
- Regular  56 grams, high torque, mid-kick
- Stiff  58 gams, high torque, mid-kick

I have a G25 5 wood and its one of my favorite clubs in my bag. I bought it when it first came out and its the oldest club in my bag. Fairway woods are hard to find and I plan on keeping this one for a long time. Its very easy to hit and is suprisingly good out of the rough. Distance wise it flies. I carry it about 225 and my G30 3 wood I only carry a little over 230. I mainly use the 3 wood off the tee. My 5 wood is my go too club on par 5s.

I have Adams Speedline Super LS and S fairway woods. Both are easy to hit and long. The LS has a lower ball flight than the S. They replaced some older Tight Lies that were just as easy to hit but not as long. I've had good luck with that th Adams fairway woods.

The SLDR 3 wood is good. I had the TS 14* and found it best when teed. With the amount of practice I put into it, I actually wore it down and things started to rattle/break. Of course I was just learning, and hit the ground hard quite often with it so more of a misuse than an inherent club problem.

Second the Adams. They make good fairway woods apparently. I decided to purchase an Adams Tight Lies Titanium 3 wood to replace my damaged SLDR. It goes about an equal distance, but is more forgiving and easier to hit off the deck in my opinion.

Personally, I don't even bother teeing up the Adams and just prefer to hit the ball off the ground. It launches easily. The shaft is very light, but in stiff it is sturdy. Makes me feel I don't need to crank it so hard to get it off the ground for a soft approach shot, and it also endures my full speed when starting a hole. Again, I liked the SLDR, but people that hit it were "meh." My friends love the Adams.

Thank you guys for all ur input. I went with xcg7 4 wood. I hit a bunch and the other 2 I really liked were the Adams blue snd xhot 2.

Looks like next testing will be replacing my 3 and 4 iron. Just not striking them as cleanly and consistent as I would like. Anything over 185-190 I'm losing strokes as the majority of time I'm not hitting that green or sometimes I'm well off.

Consider a 4H... and a 3H or 7W. Test out the choices, and see which combo you can hit best.

Some people do better with a high-lofted FW than a low-loft Hybrid.

    • You may be able to find a regular flex Blueboard on the second hand market. I’m little more than half your age so I swing a shaft that launches pretty low so I don’t have a lot of experience with Regular flex (other than when I try to hit it I miss way to the left).    There are other shafts, such as the newer Ping Alta that I’ve heard good things about. And one that no one talks about. The Jupiter shaft. You can get this shaft for a $100 with a grip and your Ping adapter installed. I was talking to the golf manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods here and he has one in his driver and has nothing but good things to say about it. I thought about getting one for my Paradym Triple Diamond to play it a little shorter, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

    • Meanwhile, another old Tour Edge guy switches to Callaway for this season. I have a different problem, course dependent set-ups. What I’m wondering is if @dragonsmhas the 8 iron set 5-PW, AW, GW or just 5-PW, GW. Because the PW is 42°, AW 47°, and GW 52°. Because that could potentially be a gap there. The 5-iron to 6-iron length jump is 5/8” instead of 1/2” so you should be careful of that.    @WUTiger the problem most people have with 3-woods is they don’t play them far enough back into their stance. And they usually don’t have enough loft and the shaft is too long. So 3HL, 4 or 5-wood is probably better for most golfers. I do the “Frankenwood” approach. I have both the 3+ and 5 woods. I typically will either add two degrees to the 3+ on 6600 yards or longer courses, or take a degree off the 5-wood on shorter courses than 6300 or so, and use the 5-wood shaft for both. I don’t usually find a situation where I need both the 3 and 5 wood on a course. I don’t play from 7000 yards it’s no fun. Edit: I mostly agree with @WUTiger on the gapping, although a lot of the newer even fixed hosel fairway woods are made better than what we had when we were playing the old Exotics XRails.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
