Welcome to the site.

If you had hit that first putt in the video I would have said that you had a chance, however since you missed it I have a hard time giving you the thumbs up..  Check back though when your HC is at a +3 / +4 and another video of you hitting that same putt and I will reconsider!

Good Luck!

Short answer, no.

A longer answer is that a quick search of the site will show you dozens of threads asking the same question that you might find interesting.

Welcome to to the site though.  Stick around and have fun!

Average 290 off the tee, hit 13 GIR and average 33-35 FT from the pin on approach shots, and have under 30 putts per round. From 7200-7600 yard very tough courses.

Have the mental drive to grind out being at that highest level of golf.

I think it can be done, but you have to be very realistic.  This isn't about me, but I played golf for a job for years and it just gets to a point where you have to be continually better than everyone on the planet.

You may be the best in your small, local tournament circuit, you then have to be the best at the national level. Then get sponsorship to pay entry fees at the next level.  Then you have people providing food for their families on the National Level (Web.com) then you have the guys on the European, PGA Tours.  Lastly you have the select group of players (top 125) that will keep their Tour Cards for the upcoming year.  That is just a small percentage of people 60 million people who play golf.

I say give it hell, but have a backup plan, an education and something to do after your playing days are over.

If you're very talented and dedicated, you might be able to get to scratch or so, but as I'm sure you know, that won't get you anywhere in a Q School, or in any professional venue for that matter.

No offense, but many non/new golfers have tried, written books on the attempt, etc. One of my favorites is Tom Coyne's Paper Tiger.

"The Tom Plan". Well, at least you have a decent swing especially for a 2 year beginner in this game.

@Nosevi, what do you think are his chances?

Probably slim but who knows? If it was easy everyone would do it. I'm trying to do it from a 5 handicap, in 5 years, full time, coached at the National Academy, practising regularly with guys already on tour and with all the kit I can throw at it like my own swing studio with launch monitor, high speed cameras, etc. My chances are 'slim' but there's every possibility Tom is a darn sight more talented than me.

Tom, give it your best shot. Whether you make it or not, you'll regret not giving it a go if that's what you want to do. Where abouts are you based? If you're within a day trip to Lincolnshire and would like a day on the launch monitor some time let me know. The guys I practice with who play on tour (or top level International Amateur circuit in one case) use it so I have all their data to compare how you strike the ball compared to the guys who are where you want to get to. Without knowing how good you need to get it's pretty tough to know how far you have to go - you need targets to work towards. I also practice on the course and around the practice green with them for the same reason.

Regarding Lihu's question, where are you now? Handicap? (Actually care least about this due to the way our handicaps work) Driving numbers ie launch monitor measured carry, spin, etc? How do you strike your irons (ie actual data rather than a guess)? 2 years is a massively short period of time unless you have good indoor facilities to use given the winter is about to set in. My guestimate would be you'd be needing to strike the ball about on par with one of the scratch players who uses my swing studio and launch monitor to be in with a shot at getting your long game up to close to the sort of standard I see out of the tour guys.

Give me a shout via PM if you want to, I'm one year in to a 5 year programme so could maybe help you avoid some pit falls and blind alleys.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
