I voted turkey, because I smoke my turkey and it's incredible. I think second might be cranberry sauce, just because I get it so infrequently. Everything else I can eat and sometimes do throughout the year - mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing even, pumpkin pie you can eat starting around Halloween… Turkey I can eat whenever, too, but don't for some reason.

But… this year, like last year, my family is going to Cracker Barrel for Thanksgiving. $11 all told (plus tip) and you get turkey, ham, everything. Dessert, even. And no clean-up!

Ever since starting to make my own cranberry sauce, that's been a revelation. It's so easy to make, no one should settle for that canned abomination.

Agreed!  Four ingredients and very little time to make.

I voted stuffing, but it is really stuffing and cranberry sauce with a bit of gravy and pepper.

Its cornbread stuffing ... I love it.  It is also a bit sentimental for me ... my mom passed the recipe to me ... so when I make it, I feel truly feel like we are both in the kitchen together ... I make regardless of who else would eat it ... its for me and some my great memories of mom ...

I voted turkey.  While I like oven baked turkey, the best tasting turkey I ever had was when I lived in Virginia and my neighbors deep fried it.

Have to say none. It's the one day a year where people enjoy eating cafeteria food. I pick at my plate, take a nap later and get up and head out to whatever ethnic restaurant is open.

I would say cranberry sauce, but this year, mine is looking wrong. Hmmm. Everything seemed to be going ok, boiled water/sugar mixture, cranberries popped. But as it cools, it still looks like cranberry soup. Let's hope it congeals as it cools soon.

I may be odd, but I like the canned jellied cranberry sauce from Ocean Spray. You know the one that makes the "schlock" sound when you slide it out of the can! Homemade sauces do nothing for me.

My old very favorite part of thanksgiving used to be leftover turkey sandwiches on Friday.  White bread, turkey, mayo and lots of pepper, and that's it.

I voted "others" because my favorite thing about T-Day is leftovers.

Yummy, yummy, yummy, feels good in my tummy.

And, Brewski's. Nothing better than a cold one after dinner...

I grew up on that stuff!!! Totally guilty pleasure.

The homemade variety is a learned taste, and the amount of sugar is key.

OT: But this is an interesting thing I saw on PBS' "How Does it Grow?" show (short clips really) on cranberries, and I remember them saying that the east coast cranberry producing land is nearly entirely controlled by Ocean Spray, which grows 60% of the world's cranberries.

The other fruits and veggies the show covers in different episodes are interesting too. Good for kids, because the clips are short.

I love the whole meal but my favorite thing to do is really, really bad and I do it after the main dinner usually for a late night snack or lunch over the next few days.  I like to take those little dinner rolls that you heat up in the oven and cut a few of them in half.  Heat up a little bit of turkey, stuffing,  and gravy put some mayo on the dinner rolls, sprinkle with cracked pepper, add the stuffing, add the turkey, and add a dab of the heated gravy on top.  It makes the best little messy sandwiches.  You can even include a swipe of cranberry sauce.  Thank God Tday is only once a year.  Double thanks that we are not hosting this year and won't have all of the leftovers temptations for the next week.  I am seriously afraid I am going to gain back all of the weight I have lost in the past 5 or 6 weeks (about 8 lbs).

A few years ago I made a turkey pot pie with the leftovers and that was pretty tasty as well.

I'm with you. In fact since my friend hosted this year I had to make a Friday run to Vons to buy some turkey parts and cranberry sauce for late night.

And if you keep up the exercise and sensible eating on most days - you won't gain that weight back.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

I made a three ingredient cranberry sauce this year. It is delicious. Just the right balance of sweet and tart. Cranberrys, OJ, and Honey. Here is the link to the recipe.

I also like the canned "sauce" (i think it of more as a jelly). Was terribly disappointed when it didn't make the table this year. It's not that I have anything against homemade, but I just like the canned stuff.

I love sweet potato casserole, but I have to say my absolute favorite part of Thanksgiving is the turkey skin.

I voted for turkey, but turkey without cranberry sauce just isn't the same. It's nice to see that there are others out there who love cranberry sauce.

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
