I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years
My current handicap index or average score is: 100
My typical ball flight is: slice
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: slice

I have palyed golf for about 3 years. The big problem for me is the distance. I can hit about 130 with 7 iron. 200 with driver. I would love to increase my distance.

Welcome to the site! That is a pretty good looking swing. A down the line video will also help. One thing I noticed is your head moves back a bit in the back swing. When this happens, you have to compensate and move your head all the way back by impact. Check out the threads below.

And this video.

Hey GC,

You got a lot of good things going on with your swing. Your tempo is very nice and you got a very good backswing and width.  The areas you are having problems with include these:

1) Your grip is very weak. You need to get your hands at setup turned over so that the "V" between your thumb and index finger line up toward your right shoulder. Both hands need to be postiioned like this! Because you have such a "weak" grip, your clubhead is very open at the top of the swing (clubhead pointing straight down). Couple this with the fact you are releasing the clubhead in the downswing much too late and this exacerbates your slice even more. Fix your grip and learn the proper release. You need to rotate your arms earlier on the downswing so that once you arms are  parallel to the ground on the forward swing, your wrist have rotated so the right hand points in back of you and the left palm is now pointing outward away from you. It's as if your wrists have flipped over during the downswing. Doing this will improve your swing and you will make nice centered hits with a squared clubhead relative to the swing path. You will also gain a lot of distance once you incorporate this movement in your swing.

2) the other major flaw that is apparent from the view you provided is that you are swaying to far forward during your forward swing. Take a look at your left hip at address and see  where  is at impact. You have moved your body/hips way too far forward during the downswing. Try focusing more on rotating your left hip straight backwards then sliding it forward like you are doing. Swaying will cause a lot of problems with your direction control with pushing the ball to the right being one of the biggest faults.

Work on these 2 areas and you will achieve you goals. Good luck.

    • I do not follow amateur or Korn Ferry tour but this story might get me to pay attention. At age 15 to be as accomplished as he is makes me think we may be seeing a future star.  A story of him breaking out may help reinvigorate golf viewership. Miles Russell has a hot start, cools off but finishes with a 68 in first Korn Ferry event Miles Russell, a 15-year-old Jacksonville Beach resident, made his Korn Ferry Tour debut on...
    • Day 8: Indoor backswing work, mostly rehearsals of takeaway. Hit some balls wtih 6-iron working on adding flow, but not too Much which I tend to do, swaying too far away from target.
    • Day 55: 4/18/2024 Got to the range again today. Planned to do my priority pieces and then hit targets with irons. But after my priority pieces I hit a few drives and tugged them all hard left. .... Uh... oh boy.  So, I spent about a half hour trying to hit targets at the range with my driver.
    • Day 126 (18 Apr 24) - Trail arm only drill with the LW…focused on letting the club drop, engaging the bounce and letting the club pop the ball up….wrapped up by repeating drill with both hands on the club…
    • OPPs, I guess I have been doing the drill incorrectly, just ignore this.  But as they say, mistakes are learning opportunities. Let’s hope I can learn from mine.
