For those of you who don't already know about GAME Golf, they  became the industry leader in developing shot tracking technology and statistical analysis for the amateur golfer with the release of the GAME Golf Classic in 2014. A GPS shot tracking device paired with individual club tags which allowed the golfer the track every shot with every club during their round which over time would build into long term stats which the golfer could track to help improve their games.

The original tags were screwed into the the players grips for easy contact with the GPS belt unit. The tags being exposed led to them being slowly worn at the bottom of the bag and could occassional become dislodged from golfers fighting with uncooperative dividers in their golf bags. Ever since I purchased my GAME Golf system last year I had a feeling something like this was going to be in the works sooner or later. Turns out sooner came sooner than I thought. GAME Golf in partnership with Golf Pride released their new Tech Enabled GAME Golf grips at this years PGA Merchandise show.

GAME Golf CEO Johjn McGuire and Golf Pride President James Ledford announce the grip to the public

First images from the announcement. The grips come in Golf Pride's classic Tour velvet style grip. The Tour velvet is the gold standard of golf grips and the most commonly used grip on the PGA Tour. The Tech Enabled grips grips take the classic Tour Velvet design and adds a specialized butt cap section for installation of the GAME Golf tag. The butt cap is emblazoned with the GAME Golf brand and highlighted with their classic red.IMG_0666_zpsgdsfijtm.jpg

IMG_0665_zpszgdoeemc.jpg

The Tech Enabled grips replace the original screw-in tags with a seamless grip system that allows the chip to be installed more securely, discreetly, and offers greater protection from bag wear. The chips can also be more easily transferred between sets for those who have more than one set of clubs for travel without wearing out the holes in the the top of the grip. The final and most obvious benefit is the improved looks as the club retains more of it's original look as the tag no longer protrudes.

Close up video of the tags and how they are installed

The grips will also send notifications for when you would ideally re-grip each club. So the clubs you use the most often will notify you what percentage of life they have left and how long you can wait to re-grip clubs you might not use as often. So instead of replacing your whole set of grips at once you'll know know which grips still have life in them and which ones are past their expiration.

No pricing details/packages available just yet. You can expect to see those in March.

These are very cool. I've lost more than a few tags and the rest are scuffed and worn at the bottom. Going to have to see how much the grips and the new tags cost to see if it is worth it.

I usually regrip my clubs myself with PURE grips so if I switch I'll have to do it the old fashioned way I guess.

Wow, that's really cool. I'd love to see where you can do your custom club ordering with them, rather than having to regrip clubs, maybe that'll happen someday soon as well. Granted, I'm not even through 2 full years with my irons, so I doubt I'd have that opportunity anytime soon.

Do we have the price and availability information on these grips yet? I am ordering a new set of clubs and would love to consider these grips with the GG sensor built in.

thanks,

Are the tags so deficient that they need these grips? It's obviously a great engineering accomplishment, but I don't see where it makes any significant difference to the user. I also don't like being locked into whatever grip makers they have relationships with.

Grip life feature?

If golfers have a weak mental game now, I wonder what they will feel when their grips are "expired"?

What does "deficient" mean?

The tags are the same in the grips except they slip into a pocket instead of screwing into the hole in the end.

If you like the grips, and you have a GG, they're probably a tiny bit more secure in the grips than the screw-in method, but I've had no problem with the silicone method I employ.

Ah that makes sense. I thought they were manufacturing grips with the chips integrated.

Duh.

By "method," do you do something other than just screw them into the vent hole on the grip cap?

They are "integrated" but they pop right out, and just don't have the "screw" part on them.

That's not a publicly accessible site. Or, more correctly, it's not supposed to be.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
