i like this tournament.  i like the vibe of the 16th, i like the fan interaction, i like the hotties they show in the grandstand.

I certainly don't mind it, but I think it's a bit played out and cliche at this point.  It doesn't excite me anymore.  Watching guys go for the green on 15 and 17, however, I do find pretty fun to watch.

I just don't get 16 - it seems like such an easy hole yet these guys also seem to have waaaaaaaay too much trouble finding the green.

Speaking of 16, I know a couple of guys who played it early in the fall and were not impressed :-P, and I know another guy who played it later in the fall, well after the grandstand started going up such that he kind of got the feel for the tournament atmosphere, who loved it.  That makes me want to propose that they should just build a permanent grandstand around the hole. And also have the sound system set up with canned crowd cheering and booing and have a marshal or the caddies be able to control the "reactions" to the regular players shots.  How fun would that be??

Justin Thomas breaks club off tree. Hey, if you have a collared shirt under the hoodie, that's ok. Tweeted to @PGATour they needed to post more videos a couple of weeks back, let them know that @EuropeanTour was doing a better job for effect. Maybe it's because of the event they're tweeting more videos, we'll see in the future. Good work, @PGATour.

Also if anyone here uses Snapchat, there's a PGAToursnaps (not PGATour, which would make sense) account with lots of video, but, I'm sounding like a broken record, not enough swings.

People make mistakes, and Keegan is partly at fault. It's still his bag.

I agree mistakes happen, but my understanding it's the caddies responsibility before the 1st tee to check the bag and count clubs.  If Keegan didn't catch it when he did it could have ruined his entire round and tournament.

If it was my caddie and it was clearly stated he's responsible for counting clubs before a round, he'd be fired.

My caddie career was when I was much younger, but I did loop for guys in local am tournaments and once for a buddy in a Nike.com qualifier (that tells you how long ago it was). Even when it was the am's some of the guys would be putzing with a couple of putters or a new driver or wedge. I would always count the clubs once we were on the first tee, because I that is how I was taught. So while it is also on Keegan, as the player and almost as certainly as the one who put the extra club into the bag, I put most of the blame on the caddie.

Added Bradley: “He’s a great caddie. We all make mistakes.”

I'm sure Bradley understands it's a mistake, but that is one of the first things I learned when I caddied in tournaments as a teenager.

I don't know why they don't just leave the stands up year-round. Taking them down and putting them back up seem like such a pain.

suppose the company who builds and provides the stands needs their capital to work for them and make money from other places that need stands during the year, too.

How am I going to watch the game if they blowup my Drone....

The FAA says it will shoot down your drone if you fly within 36 miles of the Super Bowl

Really, and what do you think the FFA will use to shoot these drones down with? LOL

They added the church pew style bunkers on #18 since @mvmac and I played there.

USAF does not have (many) F18s in their active combat inventory.

Hence local's tagged WMPO as the "Wasted Open"

It's most likely of all professional sports, the highest "beer sales" event !

That is because it is a NAVY aircraft.

Did the USAF ever have an F-18?

I noticed that and said to myself "I don't remember those being there when Erik and I played there". Thought I was going nuts ;-)

BTW it really funny that the commentators were calling 16 one of the most unique holes in golf. Maybe it is this week with the fans but 51 weeks out of the year it's basically a "nothing" hole.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
