I joined tst cuz I live in a non golfing household and work weird hours so dont have many golf buddies to chat with. Seems like a good way to rant, learn, make friends and enemies. So, why did u guys join an online forum and why tst?

I'm going on 30 years of playing and I am only 42 and there is just so much I don't know about the game still.   I largely joined to learn more about things I don't know, although I try not to be overly technical.   There is a wealth of information here, I'm going to be trying to work on information from the thread on how to hit a draw, fade, etc on command in the upcoming year.

There are also a lot of nice people here.   I could see that from lurking for a while.  People who have no need to spend time answering questions of giving information but do so, on their own time, to help others

For it's entertainment value, and perhaps learning something new.

That, and I too old for the porn forums. :-P

I never thought that I would share my thoughts on a open forum. However, I experience, that it is a great and surprising way to (eventually) meet people, get to know more and even makes you think or change your opinion in items you firmly believe in. I have joined a forum in Holland and got to know a few very interesting people. And when we play, it is always nice and a joy. And you learn. That is a bit difficult with an USA forum. But I get a great picture of some of you whom reguarly post here. and somehow, I get the feeling that I am lucky enough to plan a trip to the USA and I anounce it and some of you are in the neighbourhood, they are more than willing to hit the course with me of give me a lesson etc. I might be wrong, but I don't think so.

I tripped on TST doing a search last summer after getting serious with the game. I am glad I did. I came here to learn and get better at the game. I always start my visit on the Instruction and Playing Tips forum.

Strangely enough, I have never been a social media guy. However, this has been a good motivation for the game and to share thoughts. I have learned a lot here.

I joined because of the incredible instructional stuff. I'm the kind of person that really enjoys delving into swing mechanics, and TST presents that in a way that both informs you but doesn't drag you down into the minutiae.

I stayed for the people, though.

For swing and course info, but found it's fun reading about and discussing anything golf.

Since this is the only golf forum I am an active member on. I originally joined because I was following information on the Stack & Tilt when it first came out. What kept me coming back is the members here on the forum.

I will say that you will not find one of the more open and welcoming forums on the internet. The people here are great. The moderators do a fantastic job. The information on golf related material is fantastic.

To speak with like minded people and get all the great advise from all the peeps on here.

As soon as i mention golf to my wife, she gets that faraway look in her eyes before changing the subject. Nothing worse than hearing "thats nice dear" :-)

That's a nice post, Russ.

I joined because the other message board that I posted on at the time was mainly a football/basketball and shenanigans board, so I was looking for someplace that had discussions about golf. Like imsys0042, golf has been a part of my life for over 45 years (I will turn 58 later this year),  it was my first job (started Caddying @ 13), played in HS and nominally for my first year in college, it has always been a source of competition and camaraderie, so here I am.

To learn as much as I could about the game, and this is by far the best place around for that.

I can't get enough of any type of golf, whether I watch it, talk about it, read about it, or play it.  I googled golf forums and this was one of the pages that came up.  I creeped for a bit, just to see if it was for me, and I became hooked!  I love the instructional pieces, the reviews on new products, and the back and forth that goes on.  I'm glad I found it!

I enjoy learning about the game, listening to others' experiences and points of view, and occasionally  contributing to the  conversation about this crazy addictive activity.

I joined to discuss topics about golf that are of interest to me with others who feel the same way.  It's the same reason that I'm on a couple of photography forums and a cooking forum - to discuss a common interest with others who enjoy doing likewise.

I'm just starting my 10th year here,  longer than any other forum I've been associated with, and at an average of 1000 posts per year, my highest level of activity.  The Sandtrap has a great group of core members and staff and a great atmosphere that promotes good discussions, usually quite civil, even when discussing opposing points of view.

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

    • I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
