Get your week started off right by checking out these links.
I totally forgot about golf this weekend, and that's the first time that's happened since I can remember. Well I guess I didn't totally forget about it, I did catch an unpleasant sight of Laura Davies' rear as I was channel surfing. But most of the weekend, I was wrapped up in college football (did anyone see my alma-mater Ohio University beat Pittsburgh in OT?) and the U.S. Open finals (tennis). I think Roger Federer is the greatest tennis player ever.
Anyway, enough about my weekend. Let's look at some links.
Hole 1: Granola Golf
Here's a link to some biodegradable golf tees. When I was a kid there was an article in Sports Illustrated for Kids about the kid who developed this concept. He made his first one out of a chapstick container and heated it in the microwave. After reading it, I tried it and exploded it my mom's kitchen. She wasn't too happy. [link]
Hole 2: Deadspin
Nick Denton's new site, deadspin.com, has a golf section. I browsed through the archives and found quite a lot of entertaining pieces. [link]
Hole 3: Swing Juice
Here's another golf-focused food to help lower your scores and keep your energy levels up, swingjuice.com. Maybe they'd like to send a couple cases for us at the Newport Cup? [link]
Hole 4: Golf Gadgets
I'm starting to think that golfers and gadgets go hand in hand, or should I say wrist in wrist? Check out this golf watch from Suunto. I like golf, I like gadgets. Golf + Gadgets = Happy Josh. This thing measures the tempo of your swing! Brilliant. [link]
Hole 5: Solheim Cup Photos
If you were like me and the only coverage you saw of the Solheim Cup was Laura Davies rump, then I suggest taking a quick breeze through these photos. [link]
Hole 6: Golfaid
Everyone in the golf blogosphere should take Grouchy's advise. I was getting ready to donate some cash this morning, and when I read this listing, I decided to give this week's golf allowance as well. You should do the same. [link]
Hole 7: I've Done Worse
I don't think Sergio was completely out of line. I mean, I can't fault a guy for getting ticked when he three-putts. Please don't judge me, but I've given my golfbag the figure-four leg lock after three-putting, and I didn't get fined. [link]
Gas Price to Affect Golf?
With the current prices of crude up near $70 per barrel, everyone is talking gas prices. Even the golf industry. This is an interesting piece on how increasing oil prices could affect the golf industry. [link]
Hole 9: Dream Team
If this happens, I might have to get in my car and drive to see this. I would love to see a pairing of Woods and Couples. I think they would be unbeatable. Both are used to big crowds and Freddie always plays well in that format. Do it, Jack. [link]
