Beautiful course with great greens and layout
Beautiful course with great greens and layout

Forest Lake Golf Course

Pros: Greens were excellent. Layout was challenging with hilly terrain for Florida. Carts had GPS.

Cons: Some rough was a thin layer of grass over sand that played more like a sand shot.

Great Value with excellent greens.

Turtle Creek Golf

Pros: Greens were new and in beautiful shape. Nice layout in a wooded area with some water.

Cons: Fairways were a bit firm and had some bare patches.

Great value for the price. Decent greens and wide open layout.

Mallard's Landing Golf Course

Pros: Greens were in great shape. 18 hole with cart for <$25!

Cons: Not a lot of challenge if you were a scratch golfer. Two hole were roadside. If you slice, you will have a real chance to hit a car in traffic.

“We hit this course at first light   It demands some accuracy off the tee, but the opening few hole were a bit more forgiving which helps when you tee off a dawn.  A foursome let us play through and we flew through the round in 3:15 taking our time as a twosome.   Yardage book - they had a nice booklet available at the Pro shop.  It showed distance to hazards...” --boogielicious

“We hit this course last in our Winter Depression trip.  Beautiful course with lots of features and some hilly terrain.  Great greens. Carts had GPS with distance to 150 marker and front, center and back of green.  On some holes the GPS gave distance to clear hazards.  Great feature.    Warm Up - Grass driving range nicely maintained.  Two...” --boogielicious

“We hit this course on my 54th birthday.  Nice layout in a more forested area.   Warm Up - Grass driving range into water.  Nicely maintained.  Two level putting green for putting practice and a separate area for pitching and chipping.   Yardage book available for $12.  It is marked from the back tees and looks hand written for tournament play.  ...” --boogielicious

“We hit this course as a second 18 on a two round day.  Very inexpensive Muni but it had surprisingly good greens.  There were a couple of holes were a slice off the tee would end up in the street to oncoming traffic   Warm Up - Grass driving range that looked nicely maintained.  We didn't bother warming up because we already played 18 in the morning.  I...” --boogielicious

“We hit this course first in our Winter Depression trip.  It demands accuracy off the tee or you will lose your balls literally in the water.     Warm Up - Grass driving range into water.  Nicely maintained.  Two level putting green and they allow pitching and chipping.   Tees - Nicely maintained and generally flat.   Greens - Not sure of the grass...” --boogielicious

“ Before the course closed it was in real bad shape. The Pro Shop staff was probablythe main reason the place did close as they were rude and didn't seem to care if you played or not. Attached lounge was pretty good though. ” --trp245

“ Overall a very nice course with well maintained fairways and greens. Price was very reasonable also. The only problem I encountered was the slow play of a foursome two groups in front og us. They may have been playing for money or something but must have lined up every putt from at least 3 angles and admired each of their shots. Weren't that good either. ” --trp245

“ I have played this course several times along with other courses in the Jacksonvill/Orange Park area and have to say it's probably the best there is of those that I've played. Even in the dead of winter, which is a bit cold, the tee boxes, fairways and greens are in excellent shape. Only one time did I have a problem with slow play and that was because I got behing a Seniors Tournament and it...” --trp245

“ This is an executive course with 4 par 4's and 5 par 3's. Each hole presents a different challenge with five different tee locations to play from. The only problems really are that the grass could be cut a tiny bit better on the fairways and the greens. Otherwise the course is very playable. There is water in play on almost every hole but sand traps only on a couple of holes.   The...” --Harlin

“ It has been a little over 2 years since I have last played this course and playing today made me wonder why it took so long for me to come back.   I could not find a single thing to complain about - the tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in immaculate shape. We had a 8:00am tee time on a Saturday morning and never waited other than for the group in front of us to putt out on a...” --meenman
