Pros: Cost, open layout, Very player friendly, Full cart path.
Cons: No sand traps, no driving range, a young course very small pro shop, lacks real food.
Deer Valley is a well rounded course just outside of Hershey PA. The course is very young with lots of young small trees. I think it will fill in very nice in 10 years or so. The course is 6027 from the white tees and is very player friendly. The club house is an old converted barn with a very small are that sells some golf supplies. I would not go as far as call it a pro shop. In the club house there is just some tables and chairs to sit and drink some beers and eat hotdogs as that is about all they have. I find that a bit of a drawback. Lets head out side. They have a very large and nice practice green but no range. I think that is a huge setback as most course in this area have ranges. Their cart fleet is made up of newer nice gas units. The course has a full paved cart path. That is a huge plus. I think it is one of the most player friendly layouts in the area. Lots of strait shots and light doglegs. There is not one single sand trap on the course. Now there are a few grass traps but nothing that will make it a bad day for you. The tee boxes are very nice and well kept. The fairways were a bit long for my likings. They were still very playable but longer then I like. They are some mix of Kentucky bluegrass and lush. The greens were very nice as well and seem to roll about a 10 speed. There is small bit of water on the course as well. Only one hole makes you carry over the water and that is the 3rd hole that is a down hill slight dogleg to the left. It is a par 4 but only 287 yards so the green is drivable for good hitters. It is also my favorite hole on the course. I think for $128 for a foursome on a Saturday morning is more then fair for this course and love playing here. I think this is a well rounded course that could be one of the best in the area with some additions and upgraded.
