Description:

FHGC is my home course and a pretty nice muni. Nine holes are on the SW corner of Eleven Mile Rd and Halsted and the back nine is on the NE corner and there is a tunnel under the intersection connecting the two nines. The front nine has many tall pine trees and a fair amount of wetlands. The first hole is a medium length par 4 with a very narrow landing area unless you are a longer hitter. The second hole is a favorite of mine and is a short par 4 with cross bunkers and a narrow fairway to their left. You can choose to layup short of the bunkers leaving a longer approach, bomb over the bunkers to a narrow fairway framed by trees to the left and a depression with rough to the right or go right of the bunkers to a narrow strip of fairway. The back nine is more of a traditional tree lined Midwest course. It is my favorite of the two nines. My favorite hole is the par 5 14th. It's a dogleg that requires a long drive to clear trees short of the dogleg right. The second shot must be to the far left of the fairway to avoid trees overhanging the right side of the fairway about 60 yards short of the green. The course would do well to trim these trees severely. In summation the FHCG is relatively short (6400 yards from the tips) but plays longer and is tight in many areas. I believe the slope from the back is about 130. It's very reasonably priced and a pretty easy walk. It's usually in good condition as well.
