Beautiful but really tough
I have played La Purisima about a dozen times and it is one of the toughest courses I have ever played, and if the rough has not been mowed for a few days because of rain and the greens are fast it is difficult for even scratch players and a 5-9 handicap will have trouble breaking 90. The last 4 holes play directly into the wind and have elevated tees with an alley of trees restricting where you can start your drive.
La Purisima is a beautiful course and if you get on their email list they have a lot of great deals, I just received one that was $125 for 4 players. They have help Q school at both LP and Sand Piper in Santa Barbara and Sand Piper which is a beautiful and difficult test in its own rite played 4 shots easier.
After your round the small town of Buellton has a few nice places to go and was the setting for the movie Sideways, The Hitching Post being the most famous as a few seens were shot there and there are many photos all over town from when the movie was being shot.
