Passaconaway Country Club

Pros: Convient access from Manchester airport via 3A

Course is always in good to very good condition when I have played there. Locals tell me it was a sod farm at one time ... or the owners operate a sod farm ... never quite got that sorted but whatever the truth is maintaining a nice grass base here seems to be one of their strengths.

The other defining characteristic that sets it apart is that it is longer and more open than what I consider typically NE courses. At 6855 yards from the back tees, driver is an option, if not a must on a lot of holes. Also being being mostly wide open, a miss by a fairway width or two might not present any real trouble.  There is OB, water hazards, brush, trees, and a river in play on certain holes so it isn't exactly like the ball can indiscriminately sprayed everywhere but the feeling here is more of an open bombers course than the typical heavily wooded courses that I associate with NE golf.

The sister course to Passaconaway is Hidden Creek just up 3A toward Manchester and on the other side of 3A.  It is a 9 hole course much more in the standard NE mold. From the Hidden Creek website "Expect to see changes in elevation, double-doglegs, gullies, water, protected greens, and fairways lined with hundred-year-old trees that swallow less than accurate shots."
