Pros: Feather light, nicely balanced, great distance, looks un-fussy
Cons: Price, retro plastic head cover
In the market for a 3W to start teeing off a little further I tried a TM R9, TM Burner, Ping G15 and Titleist 909F2 but found the R9 too heavy and didn't get along with the burner (even though my hybrid is a Burner)
I went back to the range for a second try of the Ping and Titleist and it was suggested by my local pro shop that I give this Yonex a go before making up my mind between the Titleist and Ping.
What a tough decision to make!
The Ping felt lovely and solid with a great feeling on the grip and a noise second to none coming off the face. I wasn't too keen on the graphics but could have dealt with that.
The Titleist was also phenomenal. I was making better contact with the ball than with the Ping (possibly because the Ping face is shallower) and the distance and direction of my shots were good too.
The Yonex was feather light and felt more balanced than the other two. It also looked better to my eyes at address. After hitting it the ball flight looked more penetrating and went further even though I have a slow swing speed.
Overall I decided that the Yonex (just!) squeaked ahead for me in front of the Titleist so even though the price was £40 more I felt over it's lifetime I'd get £40 more enjoyment and playability out of it.
The club didn't let me down either when playing it for the first time at Willingdon. As soon as I sorted out my issues with teeing it too high it was shooting off the face like a rocket. I'm very happy with my purchase!
