Cleveland Golf came out with a new wedge with Dynamic Sole Grind. I am looking at the 64 deg. I really like the multiple bounce angles, high bounce leading edge so you don't stub it, low bounce trailing edge so you can open it up.

I just posted on this a few hours ago... haven't hit them, but I bought two of them today for a great price. Hoping that they are real easy to lay open and hit those flop shots, high spiiners, etc. They should be a real versatile wedge. I have hit the CG12 regular, and liked it, so hopefully these should be good as well. I replaced a 53* 588GM and a 60* CG10BP with a 52* and 58* CG12 DSG.

As for the need for a 64:

I have trouble with short pitch shots, it is hard for me to just bring the club back part ways. I can make a longer swing with a higher lofted club and not have it roll off the back of the green.

And I like drop-and-stop better than having to read the green.

A 64 would be fun just to practice that backwards shot that Mickelson does so well

14.

I plan to try the 64 as a replacement for the 60, not an additional club (I already carry four wedges but I count the PW and AW as a 10-iron and 11-iron as I use them like irons for specific distance shots, I don't chip or pitch with them).

The idea is if I use the 64 from 30 yds in or around the green, it will help to avoid decelerating my downswing in fear of hitting it over the green. If I can hit it full-swing then its usefullness may extend to 50 yds. I have a 54 for the gap between 50 yds and 105 yds (AW distance).

I bought the 64 yesterday and so far not much difference from the 60 other than stopping distance, the 64 stops RIGHT NOW.

I have one of those Feel 73-deg, now there is a useless club, it goes 10 yds no matter how you hit it.

I picked up a DSG 60*/3 bounce in December and took it for a run in Orlando a few weeks ago. It is incredibly easy to lay open for a super flop shot and it has great spin and trajectory on a 70 yard full shot. I had to hit several bad lies from hard ground and with a few appropriate practice shots, the confidence to hit a good shot was there. Previously, I was using a Mizuno MP-T 60* and I felt more confident with the DSG -- I still love the Mizuno 51 and 56 for normal pitching and chipping.

I'm interested to know how it does in the sand? If even this club would be applicable to use in the sand.

Does the DSG on the CG12, only come on the club that rusts? Or can you get it in chrome or black pearl

  • 1 month later...
I have the same question as Daddy...

When opening the clubface to play a bunker shot, will this wedge behave any differently than one with a typical bounce?

More specifically; will it still bounce the same bounce out of sand with the face open??

I have the same question as Daddy...

I bought the 56 and 60 degree DSG wedges. They play easier out of the sand than the Vokey Spinmill. In fact, they may hit to well. I gave it a big test this past weekend: Par 4 hit my drive into a long, deep, bunker. 202 to green took a 5 iron and cut it out into another bunker. Grrrr. 35 yard with the 56 degree, stuck it on a hard green to 3 feet for my par. They go a little further than my last wedges, Vokey spinmill and 500 Cleveland. They are great in the fairway and rough.

As for the color, it only comes in the rusty color. They will rust but if your in the sand as much as I have this past weekend you have nothing to worry about. Trades in all my old wedges and putters - got $187 credit for clubs that's been sitting in my closet for 5 years. My 7 year old 500 Bronze Cleveland got more credit than the 6 month old Vokey Spinmill, who would have guess.

This has been my experiance as well... they play just fine out of the bunker, and I was in a lot of them at Pine Needles and Whispering Pines last month. I did not experiance an increase in distance from my old 588 though. In fact, I think I hit the CG12 52* about the same distance as I hit my 588 53*, but this could have to do with the cold. Anyway, they are a fantastic club in my opinion... the finish is already completely worn off the hitting area and the sole of mine... soon I may see some rust

The bounce on the club produce excellent results, very easy to get the ball out of the sand. I don't feel like I have to pound it out of the sand, in fact, I tend to make a smoother swing, so you can say it helped with my sand play - increase confidence to get up and down. With the low profile it is less likely to scull or hit sand shots thin as some of us have done. As for hitting out of fluffy sand where you want more bounce, not sure yet. The only place I know of to test this out in our area is Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, Washington. Guess I'll be taking a golf trip there sometime.
