is it a peice of paper with a list of tournys on it or is it like a membership card like the ones you get at a gym

In one sense, it's a metaphor; the tour card represents playing privileges on a tour.

However, I believe there is a physical card with one's name and picture and "PGA Tour member" on it used for identification - to get into the player's locker room, etc.
