J.B. Holmes said all the right things about his match with Tiger. He is excited to be there and wants to test himself against the best. If Rorry and Ames had only used the same tact.

But it's far more entertaining for the crowds the way Rory and Ames did it. We love watching Tiger force someone to eat their words.

As far as smarts, though, Holmes is right. And Tiger may yet be playing his approach first today.

Yeah... as much as I disliked JB beating my boy Phil... he did say all the right things.

Maybe we'll get to see Tiger go through one or two of those people who think he's "more beatable than ever"... or conversely see someone else dispatch the only other player who is in the same league as Tiger.

Holmes is going about it the right way. Speak softly but carry a BIG STICK. If anyone has a bit stick it is Holmes.

Before JB's drive on the 18th today I counted 4 mini swings, 4 full swings, and somewhere between 7 and 9 stutter steps before address. it was hard to count the last few steps cause they get really fast!

Made me long for a bottle of JB and a drinking game!

Does anyone know if this is J.B.'s normal routine, or was he nervous so close to potentially losing a match?

He was just as annoyingly slow when he was playing with Phil at the FBR. He may start to hear "HIT THE BALL" and "COME ON ALREADY" from galleries if he continues to play like this... and he would deserve it. If fans did it to Sergio for his waggles, then JB should get a taste. I think the stutter steps at the end are the worst part.

I agree it is annoying. To me it seems to me he is a home made golfer, kind of all thrown together. It just seems like he lacks confidence in his own ability so he really hammers down on those practice swings. I really don't know what to say.

Who cares? It's his routine. Let him do what he wants to get ready to hit his shot.

Obviously several people here care.

We don't like seeing pros with drawn-out routines because it's annoying to watch them do it AND it's annoying when, having seen a pro do it, someone in our foursome does it.

I think it's pretty annoying and I bet it's really annoying for the players playing with him. However, he's not as bad as Ben Crane was. WOW... now that guy was annoying! Fortunately he's a little better these days, uhh I think, he hasn't really been in contention all that much. I guess that's a good thing.

Regarding JB saying all the right things -- yeah, he did. Kind of boring. I like when Rory opens his mouth. He's the guy you love to hate but he's entertaining.

I thought JB did say the right things right from the start. It was a great match and he played solid all the way to the end. I loved his interview after the match with Mark Roffing (or whatever his name is). JB seemed confused -like what just happened here? JB gave it his all and didnt seem to choke the match away. It just wasnt enough.....

I think the difference between him and Sergio is that he comes off as a good guy while Sergio seems like a prick. I like how he said to himself when he had a 3 hole lead with 5 to play "Just don't screw it up, make him beat you. He did."

I enjoyed the match except for that exagerated pre-shot routine. JB played great and did what everyone else in the world does to have a chance to beat Tiger, dont give it to him and make him beat you.

About the coverage by The Golf Channel, I think covering a match play event is much tougher. Every group has important shots as where in a regular event you really have just a few groups to worry about. You only have to show the other players that are out of contention when they make a great shot.

As far as the coverage of Tiger by The Golf Channel goes, seems he is the only one with his own thread on how to play him.

Again, it's his routine. Let him do what he wants. It's pointless to get upset over how someone decides to approach his golf shot.

J.B. Holmes is the #65 golfer in the world. He takes a while to hit a shot.

That isn't the problem directly. But it is believed to be a cause of a problem . The guys we play with take a few minutes over shots that they're just as likely to hit fit as to hit airborne because they think that Holmes' prep time is part of why he's so good. Me? I refused to take practice swings until I had broken 100.

People are so quick to criticize, here he is no. 65 in the world taking on and for a while beating the best player the world has ever seen, and all your fussed about is the length of his preshot routine.

I say let him do what he is comfortable with and hopefully he can carry on performing well, its not Holmes fault if someone off 20 copies his preshot routine and tops it every time...
