Opinions please.

Hello folks,
I am a total beginner(never played a round yet in my life). Still working on my swing at the range. The clubs I am using are very old. They used to belong to my grandfather. They are probably 30+ years old at least. I am about 6' 4" tall...and these clubs are too short for me...and they are outdated. I am not going to use them anymore, because I think they are doing more bad for me than good. I am not looking to jump in and buy top of the line equipment just yet, but I found a new set of clubs on ebay and would like some of your opinions. They are Mitsushiba XR-5. I have been hearing a lot, that hybrids are easier to hit than long irons for most beginners. So this listing kinda jumped at me. The lengths are all perfect. They are nice and long for me. My father has a set that I have used once, and all the lengths of his clubs match up with the lengths of the clubs in the auction. His clubs felt great, so I figure these will do.

Like I said, I am not looking for high end stuff just yet, just something better than what I have at the moment.
Does this set look any good? Mitsushiba say they have been making clubs for 40 years. I have never heard of them...maybe some of you have?

Do yourself a favor and go get fitted by a pro. You are a tall guy like me. Golf is hard enough for us as it is - don't give anything away by playing ill fitting clubs. Get the specs and get what is right for you. You could wear a hand me down suit for awhile but it ain't going to do the trick for long.

I don't know anything about the ebay clubs but $300 would be much better spent on clubs that are fitted for you and then tested by you. You'll know what's right by how they feel and how the ball flies.

I don't think I could get a complete set of clubs with a proper fit for $300(a pro that fits me for the clubs will likely try to sell me big name expensive equipment). Also, I would need to buy a bag.
I love the idea of getting fitted properly for clubs...but there is no way I can get fitted and get a complete set with a bag for $300. And I cannot afford to shell out much more than that at the moment. I will hopefully come to love the game very much in the future...and when I get better, I will invest in the good stuff that is professionally fitted for me.

Like I said...I am just looking for something to get me going. And the lengths will be fine. They are pretty long.

I agree with the Nike CPR's You could get fit fot these at your local golf galaxy or whatever you have.

Per the Nike web site,, in seems the CPRs are only available in standard length and lie and a choice of graphite shaft in A, R or S OR steel shaft in uniflex. I'm sure the ones for sale on the Rockbottom Golf site are steel uniflex.
