Golf Channel/Arnold Invitational make big mistake

So, obviously, Tiger picks and chooses which tournaments he plays. When he does play, the TV ratings skyrocket. When he doesn't play, they aren't so good.

So tell me, why is it that at the Arnold Palmer Invitational they started the television coverage AFTER he finished his round? It seems completely foolish to me that they don't even show any coverage of their moneymaker. The people who turn it on to watch Tiger are going to lose interest immediately and turn it off.

Vijay Singh, historically good at Bay Hill, has fallen off and hasn't really competed all season, so that basically leaves it up to Phil to provide all the excitement.

Who else thinks this is a terrible idea?

. . .In theory you are right. However, during the first round of any tournament there is usually very little coverage. Only the advent of the Golf Channel has made this a new issue. Just wait. . .the last three rounds will adhere to your concerns!

Well if he plays the morning on Thursday that means he plays the afternoon on Friday and will be featured. I'm sure that this was determined ahead of time and probably has to do with some statistic that probably shows that there are more Friday than Thursday viewers.

Yeah I think I jumped the gun a bit. I cleared my schedule all day today because Tiger doens't make as many tournament appearances as other players so when he's on I really like to catch him. Just watching some of the shots he makes baffles me. Something no other player would dare to do. The way he gets out of trouble is just something you can't teach.

I mean, at the WGC Accenture Match Play, he hit a ball onto a huge hill in the desert, almost out of bounds, and while straddling a rock, hits it 170 and gets up and down. His opponent, who kept it in the fairway the entire hole managed the same score. What that must do to your confidence.

Anyways, I guess I was just bummed about not seeing him play today as I made absolutely sure that I was kicked up in front of my tv with a few beers and a pizza.

I agree man. Terrible idea. They should show Tigers full round in their telecast. I mean who cares about the other guys who can't challenge Tiger. Everyone would watch if they called it Tiger TV. I mean come on--the ratings would drive through the roof and golf would compete with the NFL when Tiger is playing an event

Doubt it. I am all about golf, but when football is on. Its football man, come on.

Id much rather watch my Favreless Packers then Tiger winning another tourny any day. Id might flip it to it, only if it was a major and he was on the last hole and he was putting from 1 inch to win it. Then and only then, would I change from a Packer game. Oh, and commercials.

the commercials... pro football is filled with them. To each is own, but I'll watch golf over football any day... although as with all sports... I'd prefer to play them. The only tough choice for me is hockey v. golf.

As to not showing Tiger on Thur... who cares. Golf is still good w/o Tiger. Arnold is a draw to Bay Hill anyway, and as someone stated it is always the 3-6 coverage.

I know I'm one of about 10 people watching hockey.... aside from all the Canadians that is. Can't help it though... there's two seasons in my life, hockey and golf... God help me when I move to NC. The all year golf will be great, but the lack of hockey and prevelence of NASCAR might kill me.

I lived in Mooresville, NC. "Race City, USA" Thats what it says on the water tower. North of Charlotte. Freaking busy town.

played golf in Moorseville while on vacation last week... moving to Concord just off I-85... the wife is already down there as of about a month ago.

Charlotte is definately booming... but, I'm from Metro Detroit, so the traffic is actually still a little better down there. And most importantly the economy is much better.

I thought the coverage was much, much better than it has been lately because we saw more players today! Plus, with Tiger kind of dragging himself around Bay Hill, for whatever reason, it would be odd to let him predominate the telecast when there isn't much excitement coming from him. If he makes his way onto the leaderboard I'll guarantee you that the coverage becomes Tiger TV again.

I, for one, was loving having a chance to watch the rest of a strong field pay their game. Every single one of these guys is awesome.
