In golf it seems like i dont fit in like all the people that play are like rich and snooty. I meen I have money. But it seems that all the other people that play think they are better than me.

A lot of times I get pretty twisted up when I have people watching behind me I don't know. I try to avoid busy weekends when things get really backed up. Just nerves I guess, shouldn't matter how good or bad I am. It's not like these guys are playing on the pro tour either.

Hang in there and don't let them bother you. That's what I have to tell myself.

I know what you are saying. I remember thinking the same thing when I started going to my local club to practice chipping and putting. It felt like everyone was watching me and pointing at me.

I didnt pay them any attention and the more I focused on my practice the less I felt like they were watching me. I continued to go to the club and practice and play golf and eventually I became friends with alot of the members there and now I am a member too. I dont think it is just golf that is like this.

I'm not rich and I play golf. I play municipal courses, so you don't find the exceedingly wealthy there. But in high school, I tutored kids in an expensive part of town, and I can agree with you fully that the attitude exists. I just haven't witnessed it at a golf course.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Dude, let them look at you and judge you up and down. What you do in return...smile in their general direction, pull out your driver, and smack the ball long and far on your tee shot...look back at them, smile, and drive away. When they tee of, I promise you they'll try to match you but good lord will you be laughing...

whenever I run into those types of people (havn't REALLY run into that on a course yet)...I just think to myself " hmm i wonder what THEIR trying to hide by judging ME" in the end we're all human, skin and bones and nothing more.

yeah, it is kinda of like that, golf.

i personally do not care what clubs someone has, it is how they play and how they enjoy the game that counts.

one of my best mates struggles to keep below 100 strokes. but, he enjoys the game just as much, if not more than i do.

just keep smiling. this sport is about having fun and enjoying yourself.

best game in the world (althought my gf thinks its the longest).

There are people like that everywhere...maybe a touch more in golf circles. Don't let them dictate what you do.

I find it hillarious, I have been yelled at for playing to slow while I was waiting for the group in front of me to get off the green. I thought the purpose of golf was to relax and have fun. It isn't good for my game if I get yelled at, and it can't be good for some a-holes game to yell at me.

Yea i know your story--i sometimes come as a guest to an exclusive country club with my friend who is a member. People used to look at me funny because i was a kid and thought i was poor. People used to look down on me like i was trash. Funny thing is when i teed off everyone watched me and kissed my butt because i was probally the best player there. Its like i was a golf legend to them. I once played a mini tour event with a bunch of rich kids. They knew i wasnt rich because i hadnt played on any events on the tour up until that date. Funny thing was i finished 4th in that Tour event and it was my first tournament ever. They were then talking to me a lot after the round.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Because golf is a competitive sport you will always find those types around....I play as a single all the time and never care what the ability of my playing partner is...as long as he's/she's not an a**hole.....You're not an a**hole are you ?

I have been playing and working at my game for a long while and I love it when a 15 handicap wants to play me for $$ without ever meeting me, you know what really pisses them off? when you play better than them! I'm not a a great player by any stretch but if you work at your game and can you go out at play well....everyone loves you...JUST HAVE FUN!!!

Did you know that everyone feels what you feel!

Just remember to be nice, and have a lot of good clean fun.

If you are nice and have a lot of good clean fun, in time, the nice people who have a lot of good clean fun - that you want to be around will be around you!

I hear you on this...the same thing happened to me many years ago when I got into bicycle racing...I joined a racing club and I would go to their social events and show up at their rides and they would just ignore me...then the first race of the season I came in 3rd and then all of a sudden I was their HERO! When I came to a party they would all stop and come talk to me and also everyone wanted to start training with me and wanted to know what I did to train...I think the same is true with golf. When I started practicing at the local club Bloomingdale, where Lee Janzen has the lowest round score there ( 63 posted in the Pro Shop) and many Pro's hang out there I was getting a lot of weird looks…but once the members saw my swing and that I practiced regularly and I spent a good amount of time on my short game they started talking to me and I have even been asked to play a couple of times...long story to say just be who you are, practice hard and act according to the proper etiquette of golf and the snobs will come around or go away...
