My wife and I are getting our concealed carry licenses this summer.

I'm just curious if anyone carries while they golf.
With as many nooks, crannies, and pockets as some golf bags have, it would probably not be hard to do, on the other hand, I would think a person would probably feel pretty safe on a golf course.

Just wondering what the overall feeling on this is.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

wisco kid. ......

are you serious?? i know i have played in the middle of no where by myself with only a couple people at the whole facility (with one being in the clubhouse). I could yell and do whatever and you no one would hear a thing. its the same logic as walking or hiking through the woods by yourself or with your family. there are some crazy f%cks out there (evident with the random shootings and crazy people). carrying a pistol is like having insurance. you dont want to use your homeowners, car or even life insurance. BUT, if you need it, its there.

Treat it like carrying anywhere else, be mindful of your particular states laws regarding facilities that serve alcohol, golf courses that share boundries with school zones, federal property, indian reservations, etc. A good place to start is the NRA Gun Laws page . Two other sites to use as reference that I know of are http://handgunlaw.us/ and http://usacarry.com/ . Still you are responsible for validating this information, typically you would contact the office of the Secretary of State.

wisco kid. ......

To each his own. I am not an advocate of firearms in anyway shape or form.

Thing is you are golfing. You have a golf bag. The golf bag is full of golf clubs. Golf clubs make pretty good weapons themselves....

LOL.

So i guess if some crazed hill billy wacko with a shotgun comes out of the woods and wants to f your girl or take your wallet or kid, you try and swing on him LOL.

good luck with that.

it sucks that we are somewhat forced to live looking over our shoulder.

LMAO. Well actually yes I would have no problems taking a swing at somebody who was threatening me. Anybody who is stupid enough to approach someone with a golf club in their hand.

-On a side note a skateboard makes a pretty good weapon too. I know from past experience.

You people are freaking me out.

Can anyone point me to some news reports of stabbings or beatings or muggings or murders on golf courses that justify this craziness?

I can pretty much guarantee that if this became common practice you would see the guns used in acts of Fairway Rage before legitimate self defense.

i think your failing to remember what a shotgun/gun actually does. unless your luke skywalker, your not stopping a bullet or shot. im just saying that as a man its your right to protect yourself and your loved ones. how could you live with yourself if someone took your kid or hurt your girl while out in the boondocks playing golf.....

obviously we are thinking way out there, and I really dont remember a golfing incident happening like this. all im saying is you must be prepared. there are crazy people.

immts007.

No, a firearm is an inanimate object and in the past, I've owned many.

People who think they need to carry firearms on golf courses scare me. What's next? Church? Cuz, you know, someone could take out your kid while she was sitting in the front pew. It could happen...

It sounds like a recipe for disaster if you keep it in your bag especially at courses that are busy, have bag attendants, places where you would leave your bag to grab a bite at the turn, etc. Just my .02.

Of course it could help with that really slow foursome. You could fire a warning shot and I am sure that you would get no arguements in letting you play through. Better yet, you could be a ranger. That would keep things on schedule.

now, here is a subject that could be debated more widely...

I favour a Magnum 45....Clint enjoyed these.

Guns are for violence and killing people and not for the golf course.

Youve just highlighted one of the problems of opening the great game of golf up to the masses.

I am totally against gun ownership in society by anyone- all it does is cause proliferation-like nuclear weapons etc.

People who want guns are living in a bygone era i think- it shouldn't be the wild west anymore.

We get on ok in the UK without the common necessity of gun ownership.

LOL.

This would never happen to Tripp. He could take him out.

I've never once considered taking a weapon out golfing with me and I'm what some here would consider a 'gun nut'. I love shooting and firmly believe in personal defense, but golfing? If I felt the need to carry (and I do have my ccw permit) on the course I'd probably just stay home. Besides, every third golfer on my home course is either a Sheriff's deputy or policeman.

There was a case a couple years back at my home course where some kids stole a twosome's cart. They ran the cart to the property line before dumping the bags/clubs and then took off down the road. That's the closest I've ever heard of anything happening on a golf course.
