back posture can be manipulated when you lift your head on the follow through, so that might be the issue. a drill for helping maintain correct posture? i dont have a drill for this, i just practice doing it.

reason I asked was when I get a little tired the same thing happens to me. In my case I have made a dramatic change by strengthing my legs.

What I do is put my back against a wall and sit, my thighs are level with the floor. I stay in this position for as long as I can. I used to do this before ski season, you'd be amazed what a diff. it can make. It's not a quick fix, but maintaining correct posture during the swing takes some effort especially in the legs. For a quick fix....take your golf bag and stick your driver in such a way that it touches the top of your head, make swings trying to keep from pushing up on the driver...hope that makes sense FYI..just because your 6'3" doesn't necessarily mean you need longer clubs....example if you have long arms.

I have a tip--try choking down on the club a little more..I do this alot with my long irons..it promotes me to dig into the ground..Best of Luck

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Below are the swings of two world class 6'3" golfers.

What can you learn from them? How about something both continually say is an important part of their game when they are playing good: posture . Both of them advocate having a tall posture where you you feel like your hips are set high, and back (don't confuse back with sitting, neither of them sits) with knees that are only slightly flexed. Here is two more tips for you from them. From the one on the left - keep your chin up (at address and during the swing). From the one on the right - Fill your chest with air when you setup (to get your upper body in a good position). Both tips will help you get a tall posture that you will be less likely to rise up out of during your swing. http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/5...doswingzi5.jpg

Just make sure you're following through your swing all the way. Forcing your knees down causes you to swing different and a bit akwardly so just concentrate on hitting through the ball.

"Yep. Inside each and every one of us is one true authentic swing. Somethin' we was born with. Somethin' that's ours and ours alone. Somethin' that can't be taught to ya or learned. Somethin' that got to be remembered."

Generally, thinning the ball means you've lost focus on the ball during the swing and are turning your head away from the ball before you've hit it.

Really stay focused on the ball and think about hitting it into the ground.

It's possible you are topping it after hitting the ground before hand and the club bouncing off the turf and just above the ball. Olot of golfers do this thinking they are not keeping their knees bent enough. This might be what you are doing.

Also you might be standing too close to the ball or to far away. Both would cause a tendency to either stand up or simply not be able to hit without topping it.

Good luck mate.

its funny you say that cause i really dont know how far to be from the ball.... i thought i was standing to far from it. so i went closer to it and i hit it but the ball goes right like as if i was aiming there so im really confused i think i need to just get out there and find the things that work....but hard to do when the driving range down the street is closed down for abut 2 months and the nearest one is like 9 miles

I'm just over 6'1" and I just recently really started to focus on "compression". My preshot routine goes.... grip, stance (target line), set hips, spine angle...etc. The LAST thought that goes through my head is "compression".... so that on my down swing I am blasting through that ball and getting a divot after impact.

I'm a scrub player so for the longest time I was getting divots behind or just at the ball and was trying to "pick" the ball off the ground.

The "compression" thought has made a big difference for me and I'm now getting that "whiiiiizzzzzzz" from the ball as it leaves the club face and starts its flight path.

Then again, the whiiiiiizzzz could be coming from a feathered ball that I hit out of the desert :)

To find out if your the right distance from the ball try this:

Setup to the ball like you normally do. Take one of your hands off grip and let the arm hang naturally. Where your arm hangs is where you should grip the club (and thus your distance from the ball will be established). If you take your hand off and it hangs closer to your body than the grip then you are standing too far away from the ball, if you take your hand off and it hangs further away from the grip and your body then you are standing too close to the ball, and finally if your hand hangs next to the grip then you are the correct distance from the ball.

Then I recon we have found your problem. At the bottom there is a picture of where Trevor Immelman stands, look at his positioning.

Just look at the position of his hands and try and replicate that rough position. I would also recommend starting with the club shaft at a forty-five degree angle and find out where the ball meets the club face. If the ball hits the heel of the club, you are too close to the ball, if it hits the toe of the club you are probably too far away. Another important thing is to find a way to key your distance so that you stand the same way every time. Some experts recommend grip your club with your top hand, with your club touching the ground behind the ball, and extending your fingers out to touch the same spot on your body each time as you take your stance. I also think the picture at the bottom with the two golfers could also help. You can practise just getting the position right in your living room, stand by a mirror or film yourself. How far you stand away from the ball is hugely important to your game, get this right and alot of your problems might be solved. Good luck.

I'm 6'5" and had the same problem. For me, the fix was twofold. First, I was falling back on my heels. I had to learn to keep my weight on the balls of my feet. Second, I was too tense in my shoulders. As long as I focus on letting my shoulders relax so that my arms literally just hang free I do real well.

Is your spine pivoting on the same axis through contact. I had a tendency to stand up as I was heading through the strike zone. My pro had me do work on the chair drill. Stand with the back of the chair against your butt. While paying attention to posture, make your swing while doing your best to maintain contact with the chair back. Concentrate on maintaining you spine angle throughout. This drill has helped me immensely. Good luck!

Being 6'8" I have had all sorts of issues, not that being tall created them, Im just saying. I have had the same issues you have. First I worked on spine angle. The drill above helped me greatly. Then my teaching pro taught me the phrase Stop, Chop, and Roll. (no not the fire drill) Here is what he told me. Stop- after the set up and take a relaxing breath. Chop- hit down on the ball to get compression and lag. Roll- be sure to roll the left wrist. This little phrase alone has worked wonders for my issues.

Sorry to go off topic but is Faldo swinging two plane?

to the Poster, im 6'5 and i find when i thin it, its because so trying to focus on a good posture and im focsuing too hard, causing tension. When i try swinging like this i end up comming up and out of the correct posture. Might be worth trying to relax a little bit as you could be trying too hard!
