Hello everyone!!

Just thought I'd introduce myself on here. I'm a recent college graduate (Hook 'Em) and a drilling engineer here in Houston. I've been playing golf for as long as I can remember but gave up the game for a bit while I was in high school and college. I grew up playing at Champions Golf Club and now am a junior member. When I picked the game up seriously again about 2-3 years ago, I was probably about a 16 to 17 handicap but have now worked myself down to the edge of a single digit handicap. What prevents me from getting any better is inconsistency; I'm either putting for birdie/par or double/triple bogey. There is no in between.

Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself here. I'm sure I'll learn a lot from everyone here and enjoy all there is to read about.

I'm new here as well, currently going to school in Austin... still working on the Hook 'em thing. It doesn't quite come naturally yet!

I graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UT-Austin in Fall '06. I miss Austin so much, but there were so many more jobs for engineers here in Houston that I couldn't resist the offers to come back home (I'm originally from Houston).

Welcome back to the Bayou City! If you are in the energy sector, there is no other place to be.

I am up around the NW side of town all the time, and play quite a bit. Let me know if you want to catch a round sometime.

I'm new here but have been a golfer since I was old enough to walk. Lucky to have a Dad who was a great golfer and even better coach! I coached HS golf here for many years but was forced to give it up because of my duties at Technology Director for our rural school district. Still bitter about that but I play as often as possible and when you live three blocks from the course it's awfully nice. Only problem I've got is a bad right knee that's going to get replaced the first week in June and I figure I'm going to have to figure out a new way to swing once I've got it rehabbed! I've tried the stack and tilt but so far with little consistent success but I'm a big believer in the one-plane swing that Jim Hardy covers in his Plane Truth for Golfers book which I consider the best instruction book about golf ever written.

Here in central Kansas we've had flood and lots of tornadoes in the last year - we're about an hour from the town that was wiped out and that same night we had one a half mile wide jump about 300 feet over my end of town or we would have looked just like Greensburg! Missed the golf course too thankfully and we had our big Invitational the very next weekend after a lot of hard work to clean up the course.

That's all for now but if you're ever coming through Kansas let me know. Our course's web site is www.groveparkgolf.com and there are lots of pictures on there. I'm looking forward to contributing to this site a lot while I'm rehabbing my new knee this summer!

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
