Yesterday I was playing and found 2 ProV1's so I decided to play a couple of holes with one, I had been using D2 feels. Off the driver I didn't notice a lot of difference but around the green, WOW.

I chipped one ball to within a foot of the cup and on another hole I sunk a 20 foot put with a large break. It felt really nice off the putter and wedges.

I went back to the D2 feel and the next put felt like I was hitting a rock!

So now I want to play a few rounds with them but being a 24.9 I still loose them once in a while. How good are the used/second hand ProV1's and where do you think is the best place to purchase them?

Thanks for the help.

Kelly

Ive seen ads for used pro v1's on ebay. It seems to be the easiest place to get them in that condition. A pro wouldnt play them, but they are mostly fine for you or me.

If you're still losing balls quite a bit, there may be another alternative you might want to at least try: the NXT Tour. Many people refer to it as the "ProV1 Light". Much cheaper than the ProV's, so if you lose them you don't feel quite as bad.

Now I've never played the D2 so I can't compare...but it might be worth picking up a sleeve or something at a golf shop instead of making that big $$ leap right off the bat.

Another potential idea is finding some ProV1 X-Outs or logo overruns. Last I saw they were running about $30/dz on golfballs.com (not endorsing this site; never done business with them personally) for the X-Outs and at tgw.com they had logo overruns for about the same cost. Now some guys don't like logos, but that's up to you.

kregan,

You and I are in the same relative bracket of handicap.

I agree that a ProV1 feels much better than a D2, I have found plenty of other balls (read- cheaper) that feel much closer to hitting a ProV1 than a D2.

If you're loosing a few balls per round, ProV1's are going to get very expensive fast.

My unqualified suggestion is to try out the Titleist NXT (either of the two versions) and the Bridgestone e5+ or e6+. But really there are a lot of balls out there that are "softer" feeling than the D2 you were hitting.

Just because a PGA Tour Pro uses something does not mean it's the best choice for you too.

Plus, they don't have to pay for any of their gear. You and I do.

I would say that those shots had more to do with CONFIDENCE than it had to do with the ball...

Check out eBay....

No..besides the Nike one platinum, they spin more with less club head force than any other ball available. Ive spun those balls backwards with quarter lenth chipping strokes. But they are usually done after you do that to them one or two times.

I've bought 2nd hand taylormade balls from lostgolfballs.com - very happy with them.

i would assume prov1's would be equally up to the standard of new balls too.

I do not advise buying used balls. Go to your local golf retailer and buy the X-Outs. They are brand new balls that didn't pass the rigorous inspection at the factory. They still play great and you would be hard pressed to see or feel any difference. Hell, a lot of mine just have the logos off center. Big whoop! You can get em for $30/dz at any retailer.

Just a thought but why do you think the type of balls we all find around the course are the softer high spinning types ie. ProV's ?????

Now that I have my driver sorted out I only loose 1 or 2 a round. Usually in plain sight (close to the edge of the fairway in rough) but for the sake of speed I don't look for more then 1 minute or so. I take my penalty and move on to keep pace.

I would never buy balls because the pro's use them but I was really surprised how nice they felt off short irons and the putter. I never thought I would be able to feel a difference until yesterday

Before the D2 feels I had been using the Nike SFT2 I think it is called. They felt better then the D2's off the putter and are inexpensive.

On a tight course with lots of water I would still play something cheap.

Maybe I will pick up a sleeve of NXT and the e5+ and e6+ and see how they feel.

Best Thing is too, I just got a job there, So I can totally hide the bag in my backpack or something and then pay for it on the way out. And I get a discount!
