Hi Guys,

What are your comments and experiences on the MP Fli Hi (not the CLK)? Would a high handicapper benefit from it? Am looking for a 3 iron as my set didn't come with one and was advised that th MP Fli Hi would be a good alternative to my set's 3 iron. Would appreciate your inputs, thanks.

Hi Guys,

I've ordered the FLI-HI instead of the -57 3-iron. I'll let you know. My real objection to normal hybrids is just the look: I don't like the look at address of a small wood. It gives me little confidence. It should come in in a week or so, and after a week or two of having them, I'll post a full review of my thoughts on everything I bought, including the FLI-HI.

I just bought one yesterday, for the same reason: My set of Mizunos didn't have a 3 iron, so I got the 21* MP fli-hi. It felt great in the store, but I can't really give a review until it has gotten a better workout.

I'm a mid-handicapper and I certainly didn't have any trouble hitting it. It's probably a better choice than a regular 3 iron - I chose it because I don't have a rescue club and I'm hoping it will give some help for long shots out of rough and other tight lies.

Well, the verdict is in (OK, honeymoon verdict) - I love this club! I took it to the range this morning and gave it a workout, and it's a great club. Much more consistent for me than any 3 iron I've tried, but I can work the ball better than with a typical hybrid. The low screamer is a little tough with it, but I was never good at that shot. I get a nice strong trajectory with this club, and a solid shot just feels so nice!

Higher handicappers might want to try it first, but if you're comfortable hitting a four or five iron this club won't give you any trouble.

Hopefully our honeymoon grows into a long and happy marriage. It looks very nice next to our children, my MP 30's and MPT wedges.

As a bonus, it looks a lot like an iron so nobody notices that it's half-hybrid!

I am glad she has a twin for me!

One question: how is she at hitting out of rough? That's one area where I'm far more comfortable with a traditional hybrid over an iron. If the FLI-HI behaves nicely there, I may soon have another empty slot in my bag (where the Baffler is now).

Well, I tried a variety of different sloped lies on the range, but there isn't any rough to practice out of, so I'll have to spend some time with it on the course before I can say.

Sorry, this is actually what I meant to ask for

Let us know. I'll be letting us know in a few weeks... I ordered my irons a week ago.

I have an 18* Mizuno Fli-Hi, steel shaft with regular flex.

I got it cause I always played with a 2 iron growing up. I am still learning how to hit it properly but shure looks good at address. I still cant quite get used to a real hybrid.

I hit my 3 FLI-HI on the range today. Bad mats, bad balls, but hoo boy did I like it. I can't wait to hit it on a real range or in a real round.

Were you able to play it at the fairways already? How was it?

These sound pretty legit. I have been looking for a while now trying to find a hybrid i enjoy hitting and can hit well and just can't seem to find it. Might have to give these a shot. Any more info on these?

I can't seem to replicate my positive first experience (on mats) with any attempt on grass. I hit my irons, up to and including the 4-iron, great on the range and pretty well on the course, but the 3H from FLI-HI just isn't doing it for me. It's probably going back to the store via return policy, although the irons and wedges are staying with me!

got my MP Fli Hi 3 hybrid last week! Hit it on the range and it really is, at the start, difficult for a high handicapper to master but after a bucket (!!!!) of balls I got into the groove of hitting it. Its not as easy as the MX-900's 4 iron to hit (thats my only comparison as I dont have an mx 900 3iron to hit) but once i learned how to... I finally got to test it on the course yesterday and was impressed, although a couple of times , i buried it in the ground, and also hooked a few shots (but that was more me than than the club).

Landed on greens (210-220) where i normally fall short, though mishits are not as forgiving as that of a G10 of the same loft. Still, I do like the club.

Its going to stay in my bag but it really needs a lot of work to get used to it.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
